As part of the five working days trips to the five northern regions of Ghana, on January 21st, 2023, I paid a visit to one of our biggest user agencies in the Northern region that is the Tamale metropolitan assembly (TMA). The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has been the major hotspot for absorbing the highest number of National service personnel in the region.

I sat in a durbar with the Mayor of the Tamale metropolitan Assembly Hon. Sule Salifu with all NSS workers from the Three Northern Regions, North East, Savanna and Northern Region in Tamale at the NSS Transit Quarters (Tamale) to have deliberations on the performance of National Service Personnel in the region and most importantly the welfare of Service Personnel and NSS workers in the region.

Hon. Sule Salifu in his speech at the durbar acknowledges the work rate of the Service Personnel in the assembly and reveals their punctuality and timely sign-in to work by them. Moreover, the Mayor appreciated the presence of the Scheme in his region, he also added by accolading the Scheme for its agricultural drive policy, that is “Deployment for Employment”.

He further expressed his love for the Scheme on how Scheme is empowering youth entrepreneurship through the agricultural sector. “I am very impressed with the policy and would like to assure the Scheme of my most kind role to sustain the policy here in the region if the Scheme extends its policy to the region” he said.

Hon. Sule Salifu in his speech further commended the NSS Boss Hon Osei Assibey Antwi for the hardworking of Personnel in the assembly on how they have been helpful to the assembly in administration works, and mostly on their fieldwork operations, he also expressed his appreciation to the Scheme for their consistent improvement in the number of Service personnel every year, and also requested for more of Service Personnel in the metropolitan assembly for the subsequent years to come.

The mayor further admonished the personnel in the assembly to take advantage of the Scheme’s new policy which is the agricultural drive after their tenure of service has elapsed, as he looks forward for the Scheme to establish one of their farms in the area.

Thereafter, National service Personnel shared with me their sentiment on what has been their greatest challenge to them as a National Service Personnel at post.

On behalf of the Scheme, I thanked the Hon. Sule Salifu for his hospitality and his words of satisfaction towards the Scheme’s operations. The Scheme in his capacity is anticipated to extend the policy to other parts of the region, regarding that his region (Tamale) will be one of the regions that will benefit from the Scheme’s commercial farms.

I added by assuring National Service Personnel that their challenges will be sensitively considered whilst the Scheme is working assiduously to put them in front to champion their interest.
