Ghanaian dancehall artist, Shatta Wale, candidly shared his perspectives on the future of Ghana’s music industry during an interview on 3Music Networks.
He claimed that collaborating with Beyoncé signifies the industry’s final opportunity for success, particularly in the eyes of God.
Drawing comparisons between the music industries of Nigeria and Ghana, Shatta Wale specifically focused on major award schemes. He criticized the Ghana Music Awards for not providing similar benefits to its Artiste of the Year winners, stating, “Let’s be frank here, there are awards that are being organized in other regions and they are flying their artiste of the year to Dubai, and the Ghana music awards they can’t even dash.”
Expressing frustration, Shatta Wale pointed out that the industry has lost its chance to excel due to misplaced emphasis on certain individuals.
“When people are talking about Nigeria I don’t want them to continue because I feel like Ghana got their chance. Let me tell you the last chance God gave us; Shatta Wale featuring Beyonce. But you see we, we want watch the coat man, we want watch people like Sarkodie”
Even amid controversies and conflicts with other artists, Shatta Wale continues to hold significant influence in the Ghanaian music scene. He paused to express gratitude to his current manager, Sammy Flex, praising him for being attentive to his artistic needs.
Shatta Wale drew a distinction from his past experiences, observing that former managers often failed to align with his preferences. In contrast, Sammy Flex truly understands and supports him better than any previous manager he has worked with.
