Two persons, one of whom impersonated a TV3 journalist, Michael Addo, to gain access to the Northern Regional Minister for their ulterior motive, have been arrested in Tamale.
The two, Joshua Nana Kwabena Opoku and Ebenezer Adu-Frimpong, arrived in Tamale from Accra Saturday after they had arranged with the Minister, Abdullah Abubakari, to cover stories in the Walewale constituency.
The two on arrival, again identified themselves to the Minister as workers of the TV3 Network Limited, with Opoku claiming to be TV3’s Michael Addo in Accra but the Minister suspected them to be imposters.
He then contacted the TV3’s Tamale office to verify the identity of the two and their mission to which it emerged they were imposters.
Realising their cover is blown, Opoku who is the mastermind of the crime, told the minister he works with GhOne Television Station in Accra but checks revealed no connection whatsoever between the two and the said station.
The Police in Tamale were consequently called in to arrest the two who were taken to the Metropolitan Police Command where they were cautioned.
The Police say they will charge Opoku, who admitted to the crime in his caution statement, with deceit of public officer while his accomplice, Adu-Frimpong, would be charged for abetment of crime.
They have been granted bail by the Police to report again on Monday, August 29.
