It was a sad moment when two members of the New Patriotic Party were Wednesday electrocuted at Abesim, near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, while mounting a billboard for the party.

Two others who sustained injuries in the accident which happened at about 10:00am, were rushed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital where they are responding to treatment.

The billboard was said to have hit a high tension electricity cable while the two and others were trying to turn it around to fix the posters of the party’s 2016 presidential and parliamentary candidates on it.

Confirming to 3News, the Communications Director of the party in Sunyani East, Maxwell Mahama, said the two died instantly from the electrocution while the injured were rushed to the hospital.

“We have met the families of the two and the Police have taken up investigations into the case,” Mr Mahama told 3News.

He explained that they contacted a local company, Eye Gallery Enterprise to erect billboards of their candidate for Sunyani East as well as that of the party’s flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in various places within the constituency.

He said at about 9:00 Wednesday, the workers of the company came to the party office to inform them that they were going to continue with the work “so we gave them two of our people including our driver”.

According to Mr Mahama, the team dug the holes for one of the billboards after which they pasted the poster of their candidate on one side and while turning the other side to paste another poster, the metals of the billboard hit the high tension cables leading to the electrocution of the two.
