VGMA: It is wrong to use public voting to select the Best Rapper of the Year – Hammer

Ghanaian music producer, Edward Osei Poku, popularly known as Hammer, is not happy about how the organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards use public voting to select the winner of the Rapper of the Year category.

He told Star FM’s Caleb Nii Boye that it is wrong for them to handle the category that way.

He explained that people won’t be sincere with their opinion about a rapper.

“You can’t get people’s fans to be sincere about their idol…there is no way someone who loves Sarkodie will say Sarkodie can’t rap or Sarkodie didn’t do that well this year,” he stated.

Hammer stressed that rapper of the can never be in the voting categories.

He recommended there should be a committee inside the academy who understands rap.

Hammer added that the committee should base their judgment after listening to more than one songs of rappers and analyze their materials very well before they select the winner.

According to him, the organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) failed on that category.
