Veteran Ghanaian boxer George Ashie was stopped in his tracks by a vicious right hook to his chin in a loss to American fighter Alexis Rocha. This was Ashie’s debut fight in the United States of America.
Rocha scored the emphatic win in the welterweight division bout with 53 seconds remaining in the seventh round; the fight took place at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California in the US.
25 year old Rocha scored the impressive knockout win to move closer to secure a fight against the top ranked names in the Welterweight division including Errol Spence, Terence Crawford and Keith Thurman.
38 year old Ashie was thoroughly outclassed in a bout he got named as a replacement only a week prior to the bout; he replaced Anthony “Juice” Young late.
More odds were stuck against the Accra based fighter who stepped up in weight moving from the junior welterweight division.
Ashie failed to capitalize on a nasty cut on Rocha’s left eye in the sixth round after a clash of heads. Rocha landed big body shots that forced Ashie to drop his head and making it easier for Rocha to connect with head shots.
