Workers of Volta Lake, a company contracted by the government to clean the Albert Bosomtwe Sam Fishing Harbour in Sekondi on Monday September 5, 2016 besieged the premises of Skyy Power Fm at Fijai to lament over the nonpayment of salaries for over fifteen months

The disgruntled workers numbering over 30 claim the manageress of the company, one Dinah Mensah has been telling them stories whenever they demanded their salary arrears.

One of the aggrieved workers Alfred Gordon fumes they were being owed 11 months arrears as at March 2016. They were paid 6 months and nothing has been given them up till date.

The workers who work about five hours daily from 5am to 10am told Skyy Power FM’s Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson they receive a pittance of 100 GHC a month as their salary

Despite the low salary, they have been doing the work since there is no option, according to them

They say they always travel from communities such as Kojokrom, Mpintsin, Ahenkofi, Nkroful, Sofokrom, Nkotompo, Ekuase, Essaman, Ngyiresia and other neighboring communities at their own expense

They share their harrowing experience of how they are finding it difficult to cater for themselves and their families because of non payments of the salaries

Meanwhile, the Manageress of the Company, Dinah Mensah has confirmed the nonpayment of the arrears but blames it on delay from their Head Office in Accra.
