Three political parties – the New Patriotic Party, Ghana Freedom Party and and the United Front Party- are contesting in today’s election that is being conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. Contesting are the NPP’s Gifty Twum-Ampofo, Frempong Samuel of the GFP and Isaac Kwarteng of UFP.
The National Democratic Congress, the Convention People’s Party and the Progressive People’s Party have pulled out of the by-election which was necessitated by the murder of the MP for the area, J.B Danquah Adu in February 2016 at his residence in Accra.
More than 40,000 people are expected to cast their votes at the 69 polling stations under the constituency.
As at 6:00am, all electoral materials had been distributed to the various voting centres, and the Police were also at hand to ensure a peaceful by-election.
