We have paid $750 to fast-track GWR verification process – Afua Asantewaa reveals

Ghanaian journalist Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, who pursued the Guinness World Record singing marathon in December 2023, revealed that she paid $750 to expedite the verification process.

In an interview with Joy News, she explained the need for the payment, stating, “The normal review takes not less or more than 12 weeks, but if you want it quick, you pay an amount of money, and they review your file within 5 working days, so that’s what we paid for.”

Speaking about the financial aspect, she clarified, “Officially, it’s $650, but when you’re going to pay into the account, you have to pay some transaction fees. Totally, we did about $750 for the priority.”

Mrs. Owusu Aduonum, CEO of ASKOF Productions Limited, organizers of various events, including Ghana Outstanding Women Awards and Miss Kidi Ghana, became a Tourism Ambassador after her remarkable 126-hour and 52-minute singing marathon from December 24-29.

The event, held at Akwaaba Village at the Accra International Airport, drew national attention, featuring Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and numerous showbiz and media personalities who offered in-person support. Asantewaa Aduonum disclosed that the attempt involved a dedicated team of eight DJs, 20 medical staff, a voice coach, timers, attorneys, and personal assistants.

Despite initial concerns about her voice on the second day, various therapies, periodic breaks, and the swelling crowd of supporters facilitated her “miraculous recovery.” However, medical intervention halted affairs nearly seven hours into the sixth day.

Before settling on the singing marathon, Asantewaa considered other Guinness World Record attempts, such as the fastest 100 meters run in heels by a woman. She emphasized her passion for music and the desire to promote Ghanaian music, linking her actions to a national agenda.

During an interview, Afua cited Nigerian chef Hilda Baci as her inspiration.
