We’ve not issued approved fees for JHS,SHS – GES tells parents, schools

SHS feesThe Ghana Education Service [GES] has denied issuing government approved fees for basic and second cycle institutions in the country for the 201/2017 academic year.

It has thus asked parents and heads of those institutions to ignore the news making the rounds that management of GES has approved GH¢724.50 as the fees for senior high school students.

“The Management of GES has not released fees for basic and high schools,” Public Relations officer of the GES, Rev. Jonathan Betteh told 3News Sunday, adding “the Director Genera will soon release the school fees of senior high schools.

The GES has already announced September 8 as the reopening date for all senior high schools across the country while all junior high school students are also to report to their various schools for the next academic term on September 13.

Ahead of the reopening, a statement purported to have signed and issued by the Director General of GES claimed government has approved GH ¢724.50 and GH¢405.50 as fees for boarding and day students of SHS respectively.

The said statement also claimed admission fee of GH¢20 has been approved while examination fee has been pegged at GH¢10 for both boarding and day students including those in technical schools.

But the Rev. Betteh told 3News the statement is false, saying “the public is notified that any information in connection with circulation of fees, the GES disassociates itself from it”

He used the opportunity to warn heads of that institution against charging fees outside what would be approved by the Ministry of Education and the GES.

“Any headmaster or headmistress who after releasing the school fees from the Ministry of Education and GES, overcharge or collect unauthorised fee from parents will have himself to be blame,” he warned.
