The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has criticized the alarming surveillance footage depicting Sean Diddy Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, yet they lack the legal grounds to press charges.
The footage, dated March 5, 2016, depicts Diddy at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, despite his previous denial of Ventura’s assault allegations.
In the video, Ventura exits a hotel room followed by Diddy, who forcefully grabs her by the neck, throws her to the ground, and kicks her. After a brief interval, he kicks her again and drags her towards a room.
The district attorney’s office, in a statement released on Instagram on Friday, clarified that despite the distressing content of the footage, they are unable to pursue legal action due to the statute of limitations.
“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles,” the statement said. “We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch.”
The statement added that if the assault did occur in 2016, as reported by CNN, then they are “unfortunately” unable to press charges due to the incident falling outside the legal timeline for prosecuting assault.
