Musician Deborah Vanessa, known as Sister Derby, reflects on the cherished memories of her friend Pokua, who tragically passed away during childbirth.
Their friendship blossomed at KNUST, where Pokua, a “cool, calm, collected” companion, generously offered her expertise in doing eyebrows for their flatmates.
Sister Derby credits Pokua for aiding in her choreography for Miss Malaika 2004, a triumph they celebrated together. Praising Pokua’s deep passion for fashion and appreciation of female beauty, evident in her brand, PoquaPoqu, Sister Derby shares a poignant last message from Pokua expressing gratitude for promoting her brand’s Valentine’s Day promo on IG.
Heartbreakingly, Sister Derby was unaware that Pokua was hospitalized at the time, and she passed away the following day.

Antoinette Pokua Poku Mouhtiseb , 42, left a lasting impact with a master’s degree from the University of Hull and a degree from KNUST. She contributed to UNFPA Ghana’s fashion for a purpose campaign and served as a Vlisco Netherlands fashion ambassador.
Pokua is survived by her husband, Rida Kofi Mouhtiseb ACI, CISA, three children, her mother, and siblings, leaving behind a legacy of passion, kindness, and dedication to fashion and purpose.
