Two young men died from instant mob justice Monday morning at Biadan near Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region for allegedly stealing a television decoder.

The two, who are yet to be identified, were said to have used their thirst for water as an excuse to enter a house in the town at a time that the landlord had travelled, TV3’s Benjamin Aidoo reported.

A school boy [name withheld], who was sacked for owing school fees, told 3News that he visited his friend at the house when the two men showed up claiming to be thirsty to which they were offered some water to drink.

According to the school boy, they thought the two guys left after taking the water but later saw one of them coming out of his friend’s parents hall with decoder.

The boy said they quickly shouted for help. The two, according to the boy, attempted to escape but were arrested by the crowd that responded to the shouts. They were then subjected to severe beating leading to their death.

Our correspondent reported that the crowd say they have lost confidence in the Police in Berekum hence their decision to met out instant justice to the alleged thieves.

The Berekum Police Commander, Supt. Asare Bediako, who confirmed the incident to 3News said one of them died on the spot while the other died later at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital. Their bodies have since been deposited at the morgue.

No arrest has been made yet but Supt Bediako says investigations are ongoing in the case, noting the father of one of the deceased has reported to the Police.
