Charterhouse, organizers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has released the official voting results for this year’s event.
The results, collated by auditing firm KPMG in partnership with Charterhouse were released on Wednesday, 2nd August, 2020.
Per the explanation by the organizers, the voting is done on three levels with 30 per cent voting rights for the Board, 30 per cent for the Academy and 40 per cent for the general public.
According to the charts, the most contested category was Rapper of the Year which saw Kwesi Arthur beating Sarkodie to win the award by only 3 per cent of the votes.
Hiplife/Hip hop Artiste of the Year category was also highly contested with rapper Medikal polling 41 per cent of the votes while Sarkodie got 37 per cent.
Meanwhile the category that has generated a lot of controversy is the prestigious Artiste of the Year.
Per the voting chart, Medikal had the least number of votes with 2 per cent followed by Kofi Kinaata who got 14 per cent.
Sarkodie, who most people think should have won the award came third with 22 per cent of the votes cast while Diana Hamilton was second with a total of 26 per cent.
Kuami Eugene, who was crowned the Artiste of the Year polled 36 per cent of the votes cast.
