The Convention People’s Party (CPP) is insisting the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) ensures that Tuesday’s Presidential Encounter is given the needed media coverage without fail.
The party has threatened if the media coverage is less than what was promised, the CPP will pull out of subsequent IEA encounters.
The warning from the CPP comes after the low media coverage that characterized the People’s National Convention Dr Edward Nasigri Mahama’s turn at the IEA Presidential Encounter.
In an interview with Onua FM a day after his evening encounter last week, Dr Mahama lamented that the IEA failed to deliver on the live television coverage the PNC was promised.
“It seems there is a deliberate attempt to sideline small parties in the country. We do not get the same level of media coverage like the bigger parties. There is an effort by big parties to steal our ideas and make it their own,” he said.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Onua FM ahead of today’s encounter with CPP’s presidential candidate, Ivor Greenstreet, the party’s first Vice Chairperson, Hajia Hamdatu Haruna announced the CPP’s deception.
“If Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) receive any preferential treatment with regard to the level of media coverage during their turn, then we will also advice ourselves when it’s time for the debate,” she stated.
“We have been promised live television coverage and we expect that will take place. We will not entertain any excuses,” she said.
She urged Ghanaians to follow discussions on tonight’s encounter to learn more about the many developmental policies that the CPP has to offer the country.
“The CPP has been championing the course of the country’s development since independence and that has not changed. Ghanaians have tried other political parties who have failed to deliver the development that Ghanaians are looking for. It is time Ghanaians give the mandate back to us, so we can regenerate the spirit of nation building through the growth of the livelihoods of Ghanaians,” she said.
“Mr Greenstreet will outline policies that seek to address issues of gender parity, improving education, affordability and access to quality health care among others,” Hajia Haruna said.
