DKM customers will get their monies back – Akufo-Addo assures

Nana Akufo-Addo

New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has promised persons whose savings were locked in the country’s biggest microfinance fraud of getting their monies back if he becomes president.

Thousands of residents mainly in the Brong Ahafo and Northern regions were left disappointed when their millions of cedis were lost in a ponzi scheme operated by some microfinance companies.

The Bank of Ghana closed down these companies including DKM Microfinance, God is Love Fun Club, and Jaster motors and Investment Company Ltd after it found them culpable of operating outside the banking regulations.

Addressing Parliament last year, President Mahama blamed the Central Bank for failing to carry out its supervisory role. The Bank however rejected the accusation and denied responsibility for the fiasco.

However, ending his five-day tour to the Brong Ahafo region on Tuesday at the Nkoranza North constituency, Nana Akufo-Addo brought hope to these frustrated customers as he assured them of doing everything possible within his powers to get them their monies.

What he required for them is their votes in the November 7 polls to enable him assume the presidency in order to deliver that promise.

“If voted as President, I will do everything in my power to get your monies back to you,” he told an electrifying crowd, who responded with wild spontaneous jubilation, TV3’s Larry Paa Kwesis Moses reported.

Nana Akufo-Addo observed with regret that though the NDC government promised to pay back monies of the affected customers, it has not been able to do so; he therefore urged the people to join his “campaign for change” to dethrone the government.

The NPP presidential candidate said he was optimistic that the current economic challenge will serve as a guide to the electorate to give him their mandate in the presidential election.

He also accused the government of running down virtually all the pro-poor policies like the NHIS instituted under the NPP-led administration.

The NPP flagbearer therefore pointed out that additional four years for the NDC government, will worsen the already dire economic condition of many Ghanaians.
