The coach of the Pharaohs says his side are in good spirits to make a return to the global showpiece after a 26-year absence.

Egypt coach Hector Cuper is confident in his side’s chances of reaching the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia following Friday’s African Zone qualifiers draw of the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The North Africans were pitted against three-time participants Ghana in Group E, together with Congo and Uganda.

The Pharaohs suffered a 7-3 aggregate humiliation at the hands of the Black Stars in the final round qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the first leg ending 6-1 in favour of Ghana.

“It’s a tough group, as are all the other groups,” Cuper said.

“We are thinking of the last time when Ghana defeated Egypt to qualify; it’s history now.

“We fear no one. Our target is the World Cup, so we have to work and hope we can do it.

“It’s the best possible group because it’s already our group. We’re destined to play here so let’s play and win.

“I call on Egyptians to have faith in their team and support us until we achieve our dream.”

The Pharaohs will host the Black Stars on matchday two in November, before travelling to Accra for the return encounter a year later.

Egypt have made two appearances at the World Cup – 1934 and 1990.
