The captain of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has failed his medicals at Reading in the UK with the club indicating that it cannot risk signing the striker.
Sources close to the club have indicated that the deal is off since the team are in dire need of a striker looking at the time left for the window to close.
A club source told Joy Fm’s Gary Al-Smith that “Gyan is able to move, pass, and his weight and everything is fine. But he is not match sharp and we suspect it is from his lack of playing time in China. He’s a good, good player but we are in need of a good-to-go striker now. We can’t afford the luxury of eight weeks.”
Asamoah Gyan was hoping to complete his loan move to the club before the transfer deadline closes on midnight of Wednesday. This could mean that the former Sunderland, Al-Ain and Shanghai SIPG striker is likely to stay in China for the next half of the season until the January transfer opens.
Injuries in the last few months have frustrated the strikers form forcing him to the bench both at club and national team level. He was hoping to return to England to get some play time with Reading.
The 30 year old’s first stint in England was with Sunderland where he scored ten goals in his two seasons. He later made a big money move to Al-Ain and later to China’s top flight Shanghai SIPG where he has been prolific in front of goal.
But his recent injuries have made him only fit for the bench. His plight has been worsened with the clubs signing of Brazilian forward Hulk.
