Renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, expresses gratitude for the inclusion of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys, attributing it to divine timing.
In a recent interview with France 24, the ‘Feel’ hitmaker was asked about his thoughts on the newly added African music category at the Grammys, and he replied, “It’s all in God’s timing.”
Highlighting the enduring dominance of African music and culture, the celebrated artiste notes their growing global recognition. When questioned about the timeliness of the new category, he responds, “God’s timing is the best. African music has been dominant for years. So if you’re asking me if we should have received recognition earlier, yeah, definitely. But things take time. As I said, God’s timing is the best.”
The ‘Blow My Mind’ singer adds, ”I am truly delighted about this new category, not just for myself but for my fellow nominees. It’s wonderful to see that people back home can create African music and win a Grammy. That’s truly amazing. So I would say God’s timing; I wouldn’t say late.”
Davido secures nominations in three categories for the 2024 Grammy Awards, marking his inaugural recognition in these coveted awards. He is nominated in the groundbreaking category that honors African music. His song ‘Feel’ contends for Best Global Music Performance, ‘Unavailable’ competes for Best African Music Performance, and his 2023 album ‘Timeless’ is in the running for Best Global Music Album.
