Celebrated actress and TV presenter Nana Ama Mcbrown has opened up about how the relentless criticism she faces from Ghanaians hinders her from living a normal life.
McBrown, who recently had a body lift surgery, expressed that one of her biggest desires for her to wear a bikini and go to the beach to have fun with her loved ones. However, she fears putting on anything that will show off her skin, that Ghanaians will descend on her.
“As a famous person, everything you do is scrutinized so you can’t even be yourself….You have to deny yourself a lot of pleasure because of the mean comments from Ghanaians. You can’t go to certain places, you can’t wear certain clothes because some people will bash you for not being the role model they expect you to be. You are forced to deny yourself a lot of pleasure to avoid getting criticized.”
Mcbrow acknowledged the public exposure of many aspects of her life, and emphasized her autonomy in choosing how to react to comments. Despite the unavoidable criticism, she asserted her decision to focus on positive feedback and dismiss negativity.
“I can’t control what people say about me, but I can control how I react to it,” she said. “I choose to focus on the positive comments and ignore the negative ones.“
