Newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament aspirant for the Shai-Osudoku constituency, Linda Akwele Ocloo has described Dr. Kpessa Whyte as “a very evil man” whom she cannot work with.
She beat Dr. Whyte in the keenly contested election over the weekend polling 5,516 votes as against 3, 372 votes for Dr. Whyte.
Linda Ocloo, a teacher, decided to contest the seat following the death of her husband in a car accident in March after he (the deceased) had won the ticket to contest the election later in November.
The widow in an interview with Joy Fm said “that man I can assure you is very evil. I can’t afford to work with him, I want to work with loyal, competent people. If I tell you what happened yesterday you’d be surprised. One of my loyal campaign people were beaten by his (Kpesah Whyte) guards.
“The police were all over and it was their timely intervention” that saved the situation from getting out of hand.
Asked whether Dr. Whyte had called to congratulate her, Mrs Ocloo said “he hasn’t and I’m not sure he can have that courage but I’m still expecting his call.”
When contacted Dr. Whyte expressed “surprise” at the accusation indicating that he was almost attacked at one of the voting centers when he got there. He said he had to “leave quietly” following the hostile nature of his reception.
“That is news to me because what I do know was that one of the places where people were highly intimidated, when I got there I was hooted at and I was almost attacked but I had to quietly leave the place.
“I’m particularly surprised that she is saying that her supporters were beaten up. That is news to me that has not been brought to my attention.”
Dr. Whyte who is also the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme said “I have sent a message to Mrs. Ocloo congratulating her and asking my supporters to stand in readiness to work in a united party for our party to win both the parliamentary and presidential elections come November.
“I have that message on my Whatsapp. The message was after two phone calls couldn’t go through. As far as being prepared to work with her is concerned… yes I will be prepared to work for her and I’ve asked my supporter to do same.”
