The Vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has slammed the governing National Democratic Congress and President John Mahama of “building a foundation of straw and pretending it is concrete.”
Delivering a lecture on the state of the Ghanaian economy, Dr. Bawumia said the foundation of the country which was built by the former NPP government of former president Kufour has been shattered by the Mahama government due to mismanagement.
“The truth is that the foundation was already laid by the Kufuor government. President Mahama has spent the last eight years destroying this foundation; replacing it rather with a weak foundation of straw which he desperately tries to portray it as one of concrete.
“A mason who inherits a good foundation and spends eight years destroying it cannot be trusted to build the house. We need a competent mason, one with integrity, credibility and vision to build the house.”
Dr. Bawumia however said an NPP government if given the mandate “would build a business friendly and the most people friendly economy in Africa which will create jobs and prosperity for all Ghanaians.
“To do this we have to address head-on the economic challenges facing our economy. This includes macroeconomic instability, banking sector fragility, unsustainable debt, unemployment, the energy crisis etc.
“We need to empower the private sector. We need inclusive growth and higher infrastructure expenditure relative to GDP.”
The theme of the public lecture was Ghana’s Economy: A Foundation of Concrete or Straw?
It was attended by the crème de la crème of the NPP and a host of supporters who thronged the National Theater after the initial venue of the Conference Center was not given out.
