American rapper Meek Mill, also known as Robert Rihmeek Williams, has declared his intention to seek Ghanaian citizenship.
He attributes this decision to the systemic challenges faced by Black individuals in the United States.
In a tweet on March 4, he expressed a desire for a new beginning, emphasizing his belief that America is structured to marginalize Black men who resist conformity.
“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders!” he said.
Meek Mill’s announcement sparked diverse reactions on social media, triggering discussions among his followers regarding the implications of his decision. While some applauded the rapper’s choice, citing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and historical ties to the African diaspora, others raised concerns.
These concerns included recent legislative actions such as the anti-LGBTQ bill passed by the Ghanaian Parliament.
