A Thursday dawn accident involving a military ambulance and a mini bus has left 25 passengers in a critical condition in the Western Region.

It is not clear whether there was a casualty in the accident which occurred at about 2:00am. The injured have been rushed to the Central and Western Regional hospitals for immediate medical attention.

The military Urvan bus with registration number 42 GA 57, which had two occupants, was said to have rammed into an abandoned accident car at the scene at Komenda Sewfi, near Beposo in the Western Region.

The abandoned accident vehicle consequently smashed the Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus which was carrying 23 passengers.

The military ambulance was said to have rammed into the abandoned accident vehicle which also crashed the Sprinter bus.

The military ambulance was heading towards Accra from Takoradi while the Sprinter bus was travelling towards Takoradi from Accra.

A local reporter, Isaac Kingsley Ezii told Onua FM that personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service who were called in had to cut open the mangled Sprinter mini bus to rescue the passengers.

He said the abandoned accident car which the military ambulance rammed into had been left at the scene for the past three weeks, leading to the latest accident.

He reported that the accident created heavy vehicular congestion on the road as vehicles to and from Takoradi and Cape Coast had to slow down at the accident scene as the Fire Service personnel evacuated the passengers and cleared the road.
