New voter’s register is senseless – Lydia Forson

Outspoken Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has said that the Electoral Commission’s determination to compile a new voter’s register is senseless.

She made this statement on her Facebook page a few hours ago.

The actress who has over the years been very vocal about issues not only in the entertainment industry but on politics and social issues, said she couldn’t fathom why the exercise must go on especially when the COVID-19 cases are on the rise.

Lydia Forson is of the view that life must go on even though COVID-19 is still in the picture but not when an exercise is going to put millions of people at risk.

She noted that even when Ghanaians were registering for the National Identification Card, many of them had to go through a lot of stress so she won’t allow her loved ones to go through this process.

Lydia Forson asked her fans not to do politics in her comments section because she was tired of that.

I will continue to say this over and over again that the electoral commission’s determination to do this does not make any sense to me.Perhaps I’m not as knowledgeable in this field and you’re free to educate me; but all I see is peoples lives being put in danger over something we don’t necessarily need. COVID19 is still living and growing with us, we don’t have vaccines or confirmed treatment, and although I don’t believe our lives should stop because of it, it’s also a period to make adjustments to survive it.

This isn’t an exercise of a few hundreds of people if it were I’d trust that it wasn’t going to be ask risk, but this is for millions of Ghanaians and there’s absolutely no way people safety can %100 guaranteed.

The election in itself is one we’re going to have to take even more precautions and not many would want to put their lives at risk if we don’t have a vaccine by then.Asking people at this period to register and then come back later to queue again to vote is really unfathomable.

I wouldn’t have too much of an issue if this process was going to be as seamless as it looks in these pictures; but we all know what it was like to even register for the National Identification Card, how stressful it was, the complications, waiting and toss around.

It’s almost like we don’t have a choice at this point, if you don’t go and register, you can’t vote, if you do, you could be putting your life at risk. How do I let my loved ones with underlying health issues do this, especially at a time when we’re recording more numbers.

Please don’t come and do NPP/NDC in the comments either- we’re tired.I genuinely want to understand why this is absolutely necessary, I really do.So let me hear from you.
