The family of the two victims in the comedian Funny Face’s accident has declared their choice not to file charges against him, despite facing pressure from different quarters to do so.

Nana Akomea, speaking on behalf of the family, revealed that they’ve been bombarded with calls pushing for Funny Face’s prosecution, yet they’ve chosen not to pursue legal measures. Instead, they feel Funny Face should focus on his spiritual development and strive for redemption.

While Funny Face was visiting the victims in the Central region, Mr. Akomea underscored the importance of seeking divine guidance and personal growth. He encouraged Funny Face to make his spiritual well-being a priority and endeavor to better himself.

“Funny Face is a good man who must pay attention to God. I believe that what he needs now is to seek the face of God in his life and become a better person,” he said.

Meanwhile, Funny Face was released on bail after spending two weeks in police custody following the accident on the Kasoa highway, in which his vehicle collided with five individuals, causing severe injuries. He is set to appear in court again in four weeks as investigations into the incident proceed.

GSPD Issues 7-Day Ultimatum to Shatta Wale to Retract and Apologize to Stonebwoy

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has given Dancehall artist Shatta Wale an ultimatum of seven days to retract and apologize for his derogatory remarks towards Stonebwoy.

As you may recall, Shatta Wale targeted his fellow artist, Stonebwoy, for ridicule over his disability following Stonebwoy’s boycott of the Abeka Salahfest. Stonebwoy’s decision stemmed from Shatta Wale’s inclusion in the event’s lineup as a performer.

In a widely circulated video, Shatta Wale directed a barrage of offensive and unprintable language towards Stonebwoy, including a physical threat to kick him.

During an interview on Onua FM, the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) responded by demanding an apology from Shatta Wale for his derogatory remarks towards individuals with disabilities.

GSPD President, Mathhew Annor, issued a stern warning, stating that failure to apologize within the given seven days may lead to legal action. Annor emphasized their direct communication with Shatta Wale’s PR director and outlined their plan to escalate the matter if necessary.

“We have given him 7 days. We spoke to one of his directors of his PR unit, Mr. Adu Gyamfi Kwame, he said he will speak to him to see the way forward

“If he doesn’t respond in seven days, we will write a formal letter to his directors and producers and if he fails to heed to their advice then we will resort to the court,” he said.

GSPD issued a statement on Monday, April 15, cautioning Shatta Wale. They demanded that he retract his remarks, apologize to all individuals with disabilities, and take steps to remove the video from social media platforms. Additionally, they reminded him that making derogatory remarks about someone’s disability is a punishable offense under the Disability Act 715. In response to Shatta Wale’s mockery, GSPD stated that such a primitive statement should not have come from a high-profile figure like him. They labeled his actions as irresponsible and urged Ghanaians to condemn his behavior

“Ministry of Transport has absolutely no power to ask the Police to arrest drivers” – Joyce Bawah Mogtari

0

The former Deputy Transport Minister, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has raised objections to the Ministry’s move to authorize the arrest of private transport drivers who have raised fares, arguing that the Ministry lacks the authority to do so.

She argues that while fuel prices continue to increase, drivers should be allowed to modify fares as needed. Mogtari is skeptical of the Ministry’s directive, issued on April 15, which instructs the Ghana Police Service to monitor and apprehend drivers charging fares exceeding approved rates.

In response to drivers’ concerns about the need for fare increases due to rising fuel prices, the Ministry has highlighted ongoing negotiations for new public transport fares with Road Transport Operators.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari’s statement, reflected in a post on X on April 16, questions the Ministry’s authority and emphasizes the complexities of addressing fare adjustments in response to economic fluctuations.
She stated, “The Transport Minister or is it the Ministry of Transport has absolutely no power to ask the Police to arrest drivers of private vehicles who have increased fares because of the recent increase in fuel prices!”

Arrest drivers charging unapproved fares – Transport Ministry to Police

0

The Ministry of Transport has instructed the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to oversee commercial drivers who are imposing new transportation fees, exceeding the existing fares.

In a statement released by its Public Relations Unit in Accra on Sunday, April 14, 2024, the Ministry revealed ongoing negotiations with Road Transport Operators for updated public transport fares due to the recent rise in fuel prices and related operational expenses.

The Ministry stressed the importance of commercial drivers complying with the current public transport fares established by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC). The statement cautioned that those who violate this directive will be subject to legal repercussions.

“The Ministry is urging the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to be on the lookout for any driver who goes contrary to the directive issued by the GPRTU and the GRTCC,” the statement said.

This directive comes after the joint statement released on Thursday, April 11, 2024, by the GPRTU of TUC and the GRTCC, urging commuters not to pay any additional transport fares beyond the existing rates. The statement described any fare increases by commercial transport drivers as unlawful and highlighted ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Transport regarding potential fare adjustments.

Additionally, on Monday, April 8, 2024, the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) and the Transport Operators of Ghana jointly announced a 15% increase in transport fares, effective Saturday, April 13, 2024. They cited recent fuel price hikes, government inaction on petrol price reductions, and rising costs of vehicle spare parts and lubricants to justify their decision.

Cubana Chief Priest Pleads Not Guilty to Naira Abuse Charges, Granted ₦10 Million Bail

0

Instagram celebrity Pascal Okechukwu, famously known as Cubana Chief Priest, has pleaded not guilty to allegations of naira abuse leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges, consisting of three counts, were filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, where he was arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare. The EFCC accuses him of mishandling funds during social events, which allegedly contravenes the Central Bank Act of 2007.

During the court proceedings, Cubana Chief Priest denied the charges and was subsequently granted bail. The bail conditions require him to provide a sum of ₦10 million along with two sureties who must be employed by the federal or state government of Nigeria, with a minimum grade level of 16. Additionally, these sureties must possess verifiable landed property.

Moreover, Cubana Chief Priest is mandated to submit his travel passport to the court’s custody. Failure to comply with these bail conditions within seven days will result in his remand. Despite his plea, he also expressed intentions to contest the jurisdiction of the court in handling the case. The court scheduled a hearing on this matter for May 2nd.

This development emerges shortly after another controversial figure, Bobrisky, faced similar charges and received a six-month jail term.

“Bobrisky is being scapegoated for deliberate ridicule and dehumanization” – Dr. Olufunmilayo

0

Nigerian medical doctor, Dr. Olufunmilayo, known for his outspokenness on the X app, has voiced his opinion on how the Nigerian Correctional Services treated Bobrisky.

Bobrisky was sentenced to 6 months without a fine for Naira abuse. A thorough search by the correctional services found “no evidence of gender or genital organ realignment” in Bobrisky, with his male biological characteristics remaining unchanged. Despite Bobrisky’s identification as male in court, the correctional services conducted the search and made the results public.

Dr. Olufunmilayo criticized the actions as deliberate ridicule and dehumanization, condemning the breach of confidentiality rights. He emphasized Bobrisky’s entitlement to dignity and fair treatment, regardless of lifestyle, and suggested that the currency-related offenses served as a diversion for further dehumanization.

“It is clear as day that Bobrisky is being scapegoated for deliberate ridicule and dehumanization. With the Nigerian Prison Service releasing an official statement giving details of his/her genital organs to the public, it is now quite clear the plan of the authorities is to dehumanize, oppress, ridicule and make an entire mockery of his human dignity.

“To be clear: It is wrong, it is barbaric and it is an entire squashing of his/her confidentiality rights for such sensitive personal details of his/her public genital area to be leaked to the public. On a daily or weekly basis, People get sentenced to jail and NEVER EVER has there been disclosure of their genital organs to the public.

“The bottom line is that Bobrisky is a human being deserving of dignity, worth and right treatment. No matter what you feel about his/her lifestyle, if you are a sane person, you should see quite simply how evil this maltreatment being meted out to this person is.

“It is quite clear at this point that all that Naira mutilation talk was a dirty decoy for a more demonic and sinister plan to completely strip this person of human dignity and achieve a total dehumanisation of their person. Nigeria is a scary place,” he opined.
