NHIS and School Feeding are my ideas – Dr Mahama insists

Dr. Edward Mahama

The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has reiterated that some of the social intervention programs implemented by successive governments were his ideas.

Dr. Edward Mahama in an interview with 3FM cited two major policies National Health Insurance Scheme and the School Feeding Program.

“You remember in 2004, or perhaps you were not following me, I said then that I was going to introduce a subject called thinking  into kindergarten, JHS, and SHS…Thinking, you have thought about the idea  you can implement it and that is what I have done.

“You know when I talk about the national health insurance, the papers at that time said where are you going to get the money, when I talked about school feeding they said we are HIPC, Dr Mahama is throwing dust into people’s eyes, how can he do it”.

He added that “They are all programs that exist now even though they are not properly run as I conceived them so I am saying that my fulfillment in life is contributing to the development of my nation”.

Dr. Mahama also called for strict implementation of building codes to prevent flooding in the country.

“These flood disasters in Accra they keep occurring. One, our systems are not working, building permits, siting of homes on the wrong place, people in authority close their eyes or take monies and allow people to do things they shouldn’t do; as I said it, because building codes are not followed, the regulatory agencies do not enforce the regulations for buildings, for constructions, and so we are collectively responsible” he explains.
