Now Official: The New Superman Will Be Gay. DC Comics

The rumors have finally been confirmed. The new Superman, Jonathan Kent — who is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane — will soon begin a romantic relationship with a male friend, DC Comics announced Monday. Jon, as he’s been referred to has combated wildfires caused by climate change, thwarted a high school shooting and protested the deportation of refugees in Metropolis.

The new character, which started in July will spearhead a more diversified collection of superheroes to tackle modern issues. The rumors which began in August have been met with varied responses with some saying this direction is not good for the character and only meant to please a sect of society. Others have seen the move as a matter of inclusion as gays are able to say they can be superheroes as well.

Jonathan Kent took the mantle of Superman alongside his father this year. The Clark Kent version of Superman was introduced in 1938. He married Lois Lane in 1996. Jonathan was introduced in 2015 and spent some time as Superboy before being encouraged by his father to become the new Superman.
