Renowned singer and songwriter, Okyeame Kwame, has addressed the prevailing misconception surrounding celebrities and their supposed lavish lifestyles, challenging the notion and redirecting attention towards politicians who, in his view, often lead extravagant lives. Okyeame Kwame emphasized the tendency to scrutinize celebrities’ material possessions while overlooking the opulent lifestyles of many politicians. This comes in response to the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s intention to conduct lifestyle audits on celebrities suspected of possessing unjustifiable wealth.
In an interview with Berla Mundi on the New Day show, the entrepreneur asserted that celebrities face financial challenges because their earnings are insufficient to sustain extravagant lifestyles. Contrary to the perceived glitz, he highlighted the absence of celebrities driving luxury cars or residing in multimillion-dollar mansions. Instead, Okyeame Kwame observed such opulence more commonly among politicians and civil servants with significant affluence.
Okyeame Kwame further explained that celebrities often go on holidays abroad only through their accumulated savings, dispelling the notion of widespread unwarranted wealth among them. Advocating for a shift in focus, he urged the Economic and Organised Crime Office to concentrate its efforts on politicians, asserting that they are more likely to be implicated in corruption-related issues.
“They are going to start investigating celebrities, and in less than 30 days, they will be done because it is obvious that there are no or very few celebrities who are enjoying unwarranted wealth,” he added.
