Ghana DJ Clinic 2023 launches in Kumasi, empowers DJs and promotes inclusion

The Ghana DJ Clinic, a groundbreaking educational precursor event to the 11th annual Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, which forms part of a vision championing the welfare of DJs and the development of the culture, saw its successful launch over the weekend at the prestigious Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on Saturday, October 21.

The program serves as a platform to educate, empower, and foster collaboration among DJs and other creatives in the industry.

Heavily attended by DJs and other creatives in the Ashanti region, the event garnered an enthusiastic response, attracting both seasoned and emerging DJs. Particularly impressive was the notable presence of numerous female DJs, including DJ Coleda, who displayed their keen interest in pursuing their craft.

Over the past two years, Merqury Republic’s mission has centered around increasing women’s participation in a traditionally male-dominated profession, thereby promoting inclusion and diversity.

Nana Yaa Amoah-Owusu, the Marketing Manager Spirits & RTDs at Guinness Ghana, representing the headline sponsor of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, praised the Ghana DJ Clinic as a pivotal initiative. She underscored how the vision of the organizers harmonizes with Smirnoff’s overarching goal of promoting inclusion and diversity. During her speech on “Women Rising: Breaking Barriers to Leadership,” she emphasized the importance of collaboration, urging male DJs to work closely with their female counterparts.

She said, “A lot of global DJs, like DJ Maphorisa, are known for their collaborations. Most of their work involves teaming up with artists and fellow DJs. Why can’t we do the same? I want to see male DJs collaborating with female DJs to execute a plan. Same for the women. Through collaboration, the industry can thrive, and it positions you at the forefront. Collaboration has the power to showcase what DJs are truly capable of. Together you can win a whole championship, but alone you just win a game’.”

Another notable speaker, the legendary Lovin C, delved into the topic of “5 Ways You Are Killing Your Creative Potential.” According to this veteran DJ and radio broadcaster, complacency is a major obstacle to realizing one’s creative potential. He highlighted the tendency of many DJs to become complacent with their current status, urging them to aspire for greater heights. He stated, “Many DJs feel content with their current status, which is a mindset that needs to change.”

NYDJ, a Multiplatform Content Creator and Presenter with YFM, addressed the audience on the topic of “Mastering Technology for Success.” He emphasized the transformative power of social media when harnessed effectively by creatives. He discussed platforms like Spotify, which utilize generative AI to create AI DJs that curate playlists for music enthusiasts. He pointed out how even TikTok can influence the playlists of radio DJs, emphasizing the ever-evolving role of technology in the industry. He said, “TikTok is even influencing the playlists of radio DJs, highlighting the tremendous influence of technology. So, don’t rest on your laurels and say, ‘These platforms didn’t exist in my time.’ To remain relevant, you must stay informed about industry developments.”

Following a series of enlightening presentations, participants engaged in a practical session led by DJ Kaxtro, an influential figure in the DJing profession. DJ Kaxtro guided attendees through the evolution of DJing, from the days of CD players to traditional turntables, and onto the modern era of modified turntables. The session covered vital skills such as mixing, tempo control, pitching, and more, equipping attendees with valuable insights and expertise.

The Ghana DJ Clinic left attendees inspired and ready to take action. David Quaye, the event’s organizer at Merqury Republic, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s progress since its inception two years ago.

He stated, “The Ghana DJ Clinic is not just an event but a sector booster, a vision, and a force passionately nurtured for DJ empowerment. Our goal is clear: to educate, empower, and unite creatives within the DJing community, providing the knowledge, tools, and connections to turn dreams into reality” he explained.

“In the past two years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to creating opportunities for women DJs in an industry where they’ve been underrepresented. We’ve opened doors, shattered stereotypes, and celebrated the incredible talents of women in the DJing world. We extend our deepest appreciation to Smirnoff, whose unwavering support has been a catalyst in illuminating this vision. Together, we are redefining the music landscape, making it more diverse and inclusive.” he added.

The second phase of the Ghana DJ Clinic, preceding this year’s Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, is scheduled for November 11 at the Accra Tourist Information Centre. Hajia4Real allegedly attempts suicide after 5 out of her 6 victims showed up in court with evidence

0

Reports coming in suggests that Ghanaian media personality, Hajia4Real has allegedly tried to take her life following the recent court proceedings.

According to IG Blogger, @westafrican_celebs, during the court proceedings yesterday, five out of the six victims of Hajia4Real appeared in court with evidence that she scammed them.

This made her so emotional because it has become clear that she can’t weasel her way out of jail.

With the new evidences available, the Ghanaian socialite is likely to spend several years in jail and may probably not set foot in Ghana in a very long time.

Recall that Hajia4Real, who was arrested in the United Kingdom and extradited to the US on May 12, 2023, to face six charges, has pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan federal court.

According to Ghana’s Financial Intelligence Centre (IFC), which is working in conjunction with INTERPOL and FBI on the case, all persons within the social and business network of the suspect are now persons of interest in the investigation.

Hajia4Real is known to particularly have many associates in both entertainment and business circles in Ghana, and was an ambassador for some business brands.

The Deputy Manager of IFC, Shaun Henry Osei, made the disclosure in an interview with Accra-based Starr FM.

“Obviously, she’s not going to be working alone, she’s going to be working in a network. The evidence that you have access to will actually lead you to be able to find out who her greater network is and obviously, if you find her greater network, by instinct you will want to look at those people because then they become persons of interest.

The FIC is Ghana’s national centre for the receipt and analysis of suspicious transaction reports and other information relevant to establish offences of money laundering or terrorist financing and proliferation financing (ML/TF&P) and disseminating actionable intelligence to competent authorities.

AfroNation is not coming back to Ghana – Baba Sadiq

0

CEO of 3Media Networks, Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, has shed light on the status of the AfroNation music festival.

In a recent statement, he reiterated that AfroNation won’t be returning, and instead, it is relocating to Nigeria.

He expressed that while a return to Ghana might be considered in the future, it depends on changing circumstances.

Baba Sadiq explained that the market size in Ghana is limited and insufficient to financially support the kind of festival experience AfroNation offers.

Funding for such events often comes from external sources, giving them influence over event locations.

“The size of our market is small. Our market alone from within the market can’t fund the sort of experiences that need to be here.

“You can’t find the money from here to sometimes look outside and when you’re fetching it from outside they determine where and where you should be at any point in time,” he said.

Baba Sadiq also suggested that in order to maintain Ghana’s status as a prime holiday destination in December, the government should invest in initiatives including financial support, tax rebates, or even creating a fund to aid well-organized festivals.

“We need to put our money where our mouth is. If as a state or collectively as a country, we’re still interested in keeping our positioning as a major holiday-maker spot in December, then there has to be a certain level of investment from the state.

“Probably the state would have to begin funding these initiatives or creating a relief of sorts, like tax rebates and stuff.

“Tax rebates could be won, but it could float a fund, for instance, I mean through the banks where some of these festivals that are run properly and organized well could access funding to be able to put it together,” he said.

Baba Sadiq’s comments come on the back of the move of the annual music festival, AfroNation, to Nigeria.

The festival was launched in Ghana in 2019 during the Year of Return and was a huge success in the international space. The 2022 event, however, was cut abruptly without explanation.

and sharing unsolicited opinions on the lives of celebrities.

Adding her voice to the ongoing discussion surrounding Nana Ama McBrown’s alleged failed marriage and stammed individuals to exercise some level of decorum while tackling issues pertaining to the private lives of celebrities.

According to her, celebrities are not superhuman, adding that, they also experience life crises just like every other individual.

“Always remember that even though celebrities possess some unique talent, they are humans. So just like you, they will experience failed marriages, and their marriages can also crash. Just like you, they can also get cheated. They get drunk and do other things just like you do. Cut us some slack. Enough of the badmouthing, because you are also not perfect,” she expressed.

She, however, scolded Ghanaians saying, their lives aren’t any better.

“You are not any better. Are you better? It’s because your issues are not on social media because some of you are carrying scarier problems. Some of you have a lot of skeletons in your cupboard. Give us a break,” she added.

Enough of the show-off! Donate to flood victims like Ibrahim Mahama did – Nana Yaa Brefo subtly jabs Despite

0

Prominent media personality, Nana Yaa Brefo, has called on the wealthy people in the country to show their love to the Mepe flood victims, like business magnate Ibrahim Mahama has done.

She noted that if all individuals who have been granted riches through their businesses in the country were to follow suit and donate massively, as Ibrahim Mahama did, it would help in salvaging the plight of the people in the Volta Region.

The media personality chided businessmen and other wealthy individuals who are fond of showing off their riches on social media and urged them to contribute to the donations of the flood victims who have been displaced due to the Akosombo Dam spillage.

“When God grants you riches, you should do things like these [donating items like Ibrahim Mahama] and not spend money on ladies, showing off cars in public, or doing luxurious weddings; that is not the only reason why God gave you money.

“If God helps you to prosper through businesses in Ghana, you should be able to donate more. The rich men in Ghana, if every one of you donated massively for the flood victims, we wouldn’t have been seeking foreign aid,” she said in a video shared on her social media platform.

She further advised that, “Even if it’s one rich man and one truck, the situation wouldn’t have been the same. For the rich people in Ghana, showing off is not enough, so let the people know why God gave you money. The wealthy men in this country are a lot, so we should feel the money in times like this. When a disaster like this happens, let’s show them love, like Ibrahim Mahama donated trucks of items. Voltarians should pray for Ibrahim Mahama and McDan.”

Background

The Mepe and other surrounding communities affected by the floods on October 24, 2023, received various relief items from business magnate Ibrahim Mahama following the devastating flooding of various communities after the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

The businessman led his team to donate relief items to the affected communities. The items included 20,000 bags of 5kg rice, 24,000 cans of mackerel, 12,000 bottles of cooking oil, 400 packs of water, and 1,000 pieces of student mattresses.

Ibrahim Mahama, who is also Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners and Dzata Cement, and his team were welcomed with a durbar at the GP JHS Park at Mepe by the chiefs, queen mothers, the DCE, MPs, representative of NDC and NPP, and the good people of the affected communities.

In presenting the items to the chiefs, the DCE of Battor, MPs and the affected areas, Ibrahim Mahama said “The relief items is to commiserate with the people following the Dam spillage.”

He also promised to help brilliant but needy students affected by the flood.

Receiving the items on behalf of the community, the DCE for North Tongu, Divine Osborn Fenu, thanked Ibrahim Mahama and his team for the massive donation.

North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on behalf of the MPs, thanked Ibrahim Mahama and his team for his support for the affected communities.

The lawmaker assured that there would be equity in the distribution of the items to all the affected communities.

Ibrahim Mahama’s donation was the biggest support from an individual or any institution to the displaced people, some of whom have to lodge in schools, tents, churches, and mosques because their homes were massively flooded following the Akosombo Dam spillage.
