The mother of President John Dramani Mahama who died Tuesday night will be laid to rest in her hometown today [Friday] in the West Gonja town of Busunu in the Northern Region.

She’s expected to be buried after Jumu’ah prayers. The burial ceremony, according to 3News sources, will be done per Muslim traditions.

It’s however unclear whether it will be a private ceremony for only family members, but some government officials are said to be on their way to the town.

The family of the late Hajia Fatima Abiba Nnaba, had earlier announced June 19 for the burial ceremony after controversy erupted this week over the burial place.

It’s unclear what has prompted the change in date to Friday, June 17.

The people of Bole wanted the president’s mother to be buried at Bole where Mahama’s father comes from but the chief of Busunu, Busunuwura Mahama Nugbaso II, demanded her interment at her hometown.

The decision was then left to the children including President Mahama to make.

Meanwhile, The Presidential Press Corps has extended its “deepest condolence” to President John Dramani Mahama on the passing of his mother Tuesday night.

“The group is saddened with the passing of Hajia, and grief with the first family on this loss,” a statement issued and signed by the Secretary of the Corps, Edward Kwabi said.

“It is our firm belief that the soul of Hajia Abiba Nnaba will rest in eternal peace as she is laid to rest,” it added
