Presidential candidate promises money in pockets

Rawlings parkPresidential Candidate of the Independent People’s Party (IPP) Kofi Akpaloo has promised to put money in the pockets of underprivileged Ghanaians if he wins the 2016 elections.

His promise comes in the wake of a swipe by President John Dramani Mahama that he can’t put money in pockets of Ghanaians.

In an interview during his ‘Accounting to the People’s Tour’ in the Volta Region, President Mahama said the “numerous” opportunities created by the current economy is enough for skilled Ghanaians to secure employment.

But speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Sunday, April 24, Mr Akpaloo says he can do what the president cannot do.

“I want to put money directly into people’s pockets,” he told TV3’s Godfred Tanam.

“So a child below 15 years will be paid direct benefit [of] GH¢15 every month. If you are above 18 years, we will pay you unemployment benefit.”

He also indicated that a GH¢10,000 support fund will be set up for those who want to start their own businesses.

“We also believe that we should be able to do collective investment for big capitals,” he said, explaining that taking $1 each from one million Ghanaians from across the globe can get the country $1 million.
