Probe shameful WASSCE leakage – NPP

file photoThe New Patriotic Party is demanding a probe into the leakage of some examination papers in the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

The youth wing of the party that is pushing for the investigation believes the examination that is conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has suffered “perennial leakage” which it describes as “shameful”.

It also bemoaned what it said was lack of “concrete measure from officialdom to halt this disgraceful act”.

“As a wing, we are deeply concerned about the negative repercussions such acts have on parents, students in particular and the very credibility of our certificates internationally,” the party said in a statement signed by its National Youth Organizer, Sammi Awuku, Sunday.

In some cases students are made to re-sit cancelled leaked papers. This, the NPP youth wing contends, brings extra responsibility on parents who are “already overburdened”.

“Again, the inconvenience caused to our mostly hardworking students cannot in anyway be quantified. Both parents and students are forced to pay for the negligence of public officials.”

The statement adds, “The National Youth Wing of the NPP adds its voice to calls for an independent committee to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.”
