Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante has been retained as the National Chairman of the National Peace Council.

The immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church-Ghana will serve in the office for the next four years.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante and his new team will be inaugurated at a special ceremony on Tuesday, June 28.

The new members to steer the affairs of the Council include Most Rev. Sowah Boi-Nai, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, Apostle Dr Opoku Onyina, Bishop James Saah, Maulvi Muhammed bin Salih, Sheikh Mahmoud Gedel, Osofo Kofi Atabuasi, Nana Susubribri Krobea Asante and Sheikh Awal Shaibu.

The core function of the Council is to facilitate and develop mechanism to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace in Ghana.

The Council was established by a parliamentary act, Act 818 and became officially operational in 2011 under the presidency of the late John Evans Atta Mills.

The immediate past Council is credited for negotiating a successful aftermath of the 2012 elections and, equally importantly, the reception of the Supreme Court judgement of the landmark election petition by all parties.
