Vice President Kwesi  Amissah-Arthur on Saturday, July 16 led hundreds of Ghanaians to exercise in Accra.

They walked through some principal streets of Accra and ended up at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

The exercise forms part of the annual Republic Day Walk for Peace.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur called on Ghanaians to lead healthy lifestyles in order to prolong and improve their health.

The Vice President lauded the participants after undertaking the health walk and said the walk shows that Ghanaians are united and have moved through elections.

He further advised them that as they go back to their various places, houses and communities, they should use the opportunity to preach peace and unit.

“As we go through the elections campaign, we should continue to be brothers and sisters in the country and should continue to be together, so that the country would grow stronger and stronger.”

The walk, was the 17th since its inception in 1986 and marks the Republic Day anniversary.

This year’s was on the theme: “Keeping fit in a healthy environment: The role of all.”

The walk covered a distance of 15 kilometers from the El-Wak Stadium through Pig Farm, New Town, Nima and back to El-Wak, in a space of two hours.

The Vice President drove to the place in his new four-wheel Kantanka car acquired from Katanka Automobile Company Limited.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the Minister of Youth and Sports, stated that the ministry plans to promote good environmental habits through the various keep fit clubs in the country.

Abdul Karim Hatsu, Chairman of the El-Wak Keep Fit Club, said there is no better medicine than at least, a 30-minute exercise three times a week.

“Keeping fit boosts our energy levels, reduces our weight, and also promotes better and sounder sleep.”

Among other diginitaries at the keep fit exercise were Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Minister for Roads and Highways, Roger Kwesi  Angsomwine Snr, ‎Secretary to the Cabinet at Office Of The President, and James Agyenim-Boateng, Presidential Staffer at Office of the Vice President.
