VGMA: A lot of politics happens behind the scenes – Barima Sidney reveals (Watch Video)

Ghanaian musician, Sidney Oppong Ofori otherwise known as Barima Sidney has expressed his opinion on the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Wading into the Artiste of the Year controversy and whether Kuami Eugene deserves it or not, he said a lot of politics happens behind the scenes at the VGMA.

Using himself as an example, Barima Sidney said the Afrobeats Song of the Year category was created in the year he released his hit song “African Money.”

He disclosed that the organizers of the event, Charterhouse wanted him to perform that song on the night of the awards but he refused to perform because he had a show in Togo.

Sidney said even though he was not promised the award, he had been highly tipped to win it if he had performed at the VGMA.

According to him, the award was given to music trio Praye after he failed to perform on the night.

He indicated that managers lobby for their artistes to win awards at the VGMA.

The “Papa no” composer said he believes Kuami Eugene deserved to win Artiste of the Year and he was about it.
