Workers of the Volta River Authority (VRA) have served notice of embarking on a number of industrial actions, starting Thursday, August 4, to register their displeasure against “overt and covert actions” of the Ministry of Power.
According to them, the Ministry of Power is engaged in “blatant interference and manipulations” with “some faceless persons” in what could lead to the dissipation of the Authority’s assets.
In a letter written to the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, the workers registered their protest against the ceding of the T3 Plant in Aboadze to AMERI, for example, by the Power Ministry.
They are also not happy with the ceding of MRP at Tema to Sunon-Asogli and the leasing of a parcel of land at the Kpone Thermal Power Station to Ghana Power Generation Company (GPGC).
“We wish to state unequivocally that we are vehemently opposed to the overt and covert actions of the Ministry of Power which are in clear breach of Sections 2 of Act 46, which establishes the Authority as an autonomous institution.”
The workers say they will embark on a series of legitimate actions to “immediately stop” the Power Ministry from its moves.
