Under pressure president of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney says only the court can order the withdrawal of the Journalist of the Year award conferred on Anas.
Some members of the association have questioned the propriety in giving this year’s award to the ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas. They argued that he did not submit entries for the awards and also most of his works were purely done for his private investigative firm.
Embattled Justice Paul Dery who was indicted in the Anas’ piece on judicial corruption has also petitioned the GJA to withdraw the award given to Anas on grounds of unethical journalism.
Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise Morning Show hosted by Winston Amoah, Mr. Monney posited that Anas’ work in the course of 2015 merits the award and anybody who has concerns should go to court.
“It is not within the banks of possibilities to do that, unless we are so ordered by the court,” he maintained.
According to him, one does not need any superfluity of proof to consider Anas as the best journalist for 2015.
However, the GJA president revealed that two executives were not in favor of Anas being awarded. One of them, he said, was open on her disapproval because she had personal problem with Anas.
