Winning the Ghana Premier League: How Wa All Stars did it

waWa All Stars have suddenly dominated the football media following their successful clinching of the Ghana Premier League trophy after their 2-1 win over Aduana Stars at the Malik Jabir Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Many have spoken about the controversial nature of the last straw that broke the camel’s back; the penalty. But upon watching the video over and over again, I am convinced referee Alhassan was right.

Despite that fact, let’s all acknowledge the fact that the Blues from the north really deserved the league trophy.

An honest sports administrator told me at the beginning of the season that Wa All Stars will be winning the league but I doubted him. My bet was on Aduana Stars.

His reason was that Wa All Stars had a great preseason and had a quality set up than many of the potential title winners in the country.

After Wednesday’s win over Aduana Stars in Wa, I quickly did a little throw back and told myself they deserved it. Yes Wa All Stars deserve to be winners.

Before anyone starts discrediting Wa All Stars, let’s not forget that the Wa side had a better statistical advantage over Aduana Stars before the game as in goals conceded, home wins and away performance.

This season Wa All Stars won their matches at dreadful league centers like Dormaa, Bekwai, Berekum, and Accra.

They have also picked vital points in confined venues like Obuasi and Dawu.

Mention must also be made that they have gone unbeaten at home as well.

The club showed clear intent right from Day 1, and were the only unbeaten side in the first 7 Matches of the season.

Finally, Wa All Stars have a combined travel distance of 10,000 miles in the league, an average of 359.9 miles per travel, which is about the same distance from Accra to Australia.

So let’s credit the efforts of the players, the head coach Enus Adepa, the management and the fans for they have really toiled for the title.

Congratulations Wa All Stars.
