One year after the tragic passing of Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu, social media users fondly remember him.
Atsu went missing under rubble during a destructive earthquake in southern Turkey, and his lifeless body was later recovered, confirming his demise. After days of intense search efforts by local and international units, the ex-Chelsea and Newcastle United winger was laid to rest on March 17, 2022, in his hometown of Ada in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region.
On the anniversary of his passing, footballers, media outlets, and fans commemorate him by sharing his pictures along with captions expressing wishes for him to find eternal peace.

Born on January 10, 1992, in Ada Foah, Ghana, Christian Atsu Twasam, a versatile professional footballer, played as a winger, attacking midfielder, or left back. Atsu’s career spanned clubs such as Porto, Chelsea, Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, Bournemouth, Málaga, and Newcastle United, where he completed a permanent transfer in May 2017.
After his four-year contract, he played for Al Raed in Saudi Arabia and Hatayspor in Turkey, where the unfortunate incident took place.
