Build Mental Resilience Against Trolls – Okyeame Kwame to colleague celebrities

Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame, also known as ‘Rap Doctor,’ has recently stressed the vital need for developing mental resilience against online trolls, especially in the context of celebrity life.

In today’s digital era, where social media and other traditional platforms serve as immediate channel of communication and interaction, celebrities often become targets of criticism, negativity, and trolling. Having encountered criticism for sharing promotional content in his boxers, Okyeame Kwame appears to be sharing his coping strategy. He underscores the significance of mental resilience in addressing the detrimental effects of cyberbullying.

During a conversation with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Okyeame Kwame urged fellow celebrities to cultivate a resilient mindset, emphasizing that negative comments should not define one’s self-worth.

Highlighting the profound impact of constant public scrutiny on mental health, Okyeame Kwame encouraged individuals to prioritize self-care and emotional well-being. Through the development of mental resilience, celebrities can better shield themselves from the emotional toll imposed by online trolls.

“I think that you need to build mental resilience; personally. Because you need to understand that what people are doing, the world is not happening on your clock. Yes, you have 2.5 million followers on Instagram, but they are following you to see something. When people insult you on Twitter and Facebook and others, you shouldn’t own it because that is what they want to do.
“So build mental resilience and know that even though you are celebrated, the world is not happening on your clock, and I think that if you do this and listen to your body, you don’t intoxicate yourself with too much data, too much reading, with too much alcohol, with too much pills, with too much sex, and you are in tune with yourself, you can hear if your heart is about to get an attack,” he expressed.

Okyeame Kwame also expressed a strong opinion that the media and other participants in the entertainment industry hold a responsibility to protect the mental well-being of celebrities. He emphasized that certain media reports have adverse effects on the mental health of creatives.

“Artistes are human beings. They come to sit on platforms like this and speak out their hearts and share their vulnerable moments. And then you take that part out and twist it for clickbait, and then everyone is calling him. Because of that, some girl he wants to marry says no, people are beginning to see him in a certain light, because you want clickbait. If you love the artiste, stop that,” he added.
