The Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) is threatening a nationwide strike from 19th of July to protest the exclusion of its members from the implementation of the interim market premium.

In 2013, President Mahama issued a white paper on guidelines for the determination of market premium under the single spine pay policy.

Subsequently, a National Committee on the implementation of the market premium which included the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission was inaugurated by the Employment and Labour Minister, Haruna Iddrisu in May this year.

But CLOGSAG is dissatisfied with the work done by the committee so far.

“CLOGSAG was neither requested to submit justification for payment of premium to qualified personnel within the civil and local government services nor was the association invited by the sub- committeeExecutive Secretary for CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He added that: ‘‘Based on the expertise at the FWSC, we are of the view that the output of the committee will be misleading, unprofessional and mischievous”.

The Executive Secretary therefore warned that if by July 19, 2016, CLOGSAG has not been informed about the inclusion of its members in the implementation of the interim market premium, it will declare a nationwide strike.

‘‘We have made our complaints to the finance and labour ministers. If they don’t have any other body in mind we shall provide them with one. There are so many out there’’.
