The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) is asking the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Minister of Justice to act with dispatch in bringing the two Montie FM panellists to book.
The two – Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn – had threatened to eliminate the Supreme Court judges hearing the case on the voters’ register.
Though they have apologised and are under investigation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), JUSAG wants immediate action to be taken.
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 5, National President of JUSAG Alex Nartey said the two must not be allowed to walk free, which could enable them carry out their threats.
“We call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor and the Attorney General, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong to bring these miscreants to book in order to serve as a deterrent to others whose inflammatory statement on radio may plunge this country into chaos.”
He said though the judges will not feel intimidated by the threats, “we deem it necessary to guarantee that such impudence and criminal behaviour does not go unpublished”.
In his statement, Mr Nartey cited the Rwandan genocide as a clear example of the havoc an utterance on radio can wreak.
