EC has & will be accurate in 2016 elections – K. Dzakpasu

EC PRO DzakpasuThe new head of communication of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, says the commission has always been accurate in the delivery of its mandate especially the output of electoral figures after an election.

“We’ve handled about six elections in this country successfully and we are preparing to handle the seventh one, and all these years we’ve always come out accurately in terms of voter figures and in terms of our election results and in the same open and transparent manner, we are going to continue and deliver to the expectation of the Ghanaian people.”

Speaking exclusively to TV3, Mr. Dzakpasu said he brings substantial experience and sound knowledge of electoral laws and processes to the role of communications director, having served the commission for a total of 20 years.

The Electoral Commission on Wednesday, June 15 announced the appointment of Mr. Dzakpasu as its new Head of Communications.

He says as a professional elections administrator his outfit will be neutral and develop and deploy innovative communication tools, channels, and processes, to serve Ghanaians fairly before, during and after the general elections.

He takes over from Christian Owusu Parry who had been acting in the capacity for years and was recently moved to an administrative position.

He further promised to engage extensively with the media indicating that “the media must come on board to support the Electoral Commission to support the communications department of the commission to help us to reach out with timely, accurate information to the public.”

50 year old, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
