I have never said streaming is evil or a crime – Socrate Safo replies Sadiq

Ghanaian filmmaker and a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Socrate Safo has replied NDC’s Sadiq Abdulai Abu on their argument over the sale of CDs against digital or streaming platforms.

Sadiq in a post on Facebook asked Socrate the number of Ghanaian musicians who have been able to sell 24 million copies of CDs after King Promise achieved such feat with his ‘As Promised’ album on Spotify with regards to streams.

Replaying to his question through a post made by Kwasi Ernest, Socrate Safo clarified that he is not against the songs being put on these digital platforms; however, he believes musicians can still rake in some amount through the sale of CDs.

He replied: “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser. Kwasi, I told you they don’t understand the whole issue. And those who understand too a deliberately shifting the point, and ridicule as a strategy. It’s worked for them so far. It’s all about Turf War.

“For the records, as you point out, I have never said streaming is evil or a crime. No, I am saying there is still some small market left for CD sales.

“That small market is big enough to sustain a musician whilst waiting for the big money from streaming. What we need is promotion for CD sales. We also need to fix the challenge with distribution system. Does this make sense to somebody?”
