The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially taken a decision not to participate in this year’s debate series organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).
The decision was taken at the ruling party’s Functional Executive Meeting held on Tuesday, June 21, a statement says.
The statement is specific, indicating that as far as the debate is related to the 2016 elections, it will not take part.
“All party structures (especially Youth and Women’s wings) are to take note and act accordingly,” said the statement signed by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
The NDC was plunged into a collision course with the IEA after the launch of the Institute’s programme of activities prior to the 2016 elections.
The party disagreed with dates for the debates and denied any correspondence with the Institute prior to the launch.
But the IEA has already begun its activities with the first of three encounters held on Tuesday, June 21.
Executive Director Jean Mensa stressed at the end of Edward Nasigre Mahama’s encounter that IEA’s platform for presidential candidates is more credible.
