Ghana Water Company warns residents as it readies to spill Weija dam

0

Weija WTP

Residents in and around Weija in the Greater Accra Region have been warned of an impending spilling of the Weija Dam.

Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) says there has been a sudden rise in levels of the Weija Lake, forcing the Company to open the spillway gates of the dam.

Though management was silent on the exact days to do the spilling, a press release on Thursday, June 9 said it will be done “in the next few days”.

“Management is thus informing individuals, institutions, organisations and companies with properties on the downstream side of the Dam to note that the opening of the spillway gates may cause massive flooding along the lower course of the Densu River and it is essential for property owners and residents in the area to take immediate precautionary measures to protect life and property.”

Apart from Weija, communities such as Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Bojo Beach, Ada Kopey and surrounding ones will also be affected.

The Company assured that enough measures have been put in place to “enable good flow of excess water”.

But it says the warning is being sounded because it “cannot guarantee the safety of people living in such areas”.

“It is therefore better and safer to heed to this precautionary information to safeguard lives and property.”

Muhammad Ali memorial begins with Muslim prayer service

Muhammad Ali personally planned his own funeral in the years before his death

Worshippers and fans of Muhammad Ali are attending a Muslim prayer service to honour the legendary boxer in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

The two-day funeral was planned by Ali in the years before his death, according to a family spokesman.

Ali wanted the Muslim prayer service, known as a Jenazah, to be “a teaching moment”, according to Imam Zaid Shakir, who is leading the service.

Muhammad Ali, “The Greatest”, died on Friday aged 74.

More than 14,000 people have tickets to the event at the site of Ali’s last fight in Louisville in 1961.

American Muslims attending the service and watching on TV say they hope that the public prayers will help Americans to become more familiar with Islam and its practices.

In 1964, Ali famously converted to Islam, changing his name from Cassius Clay, which he called his “slave name”.

He first joined the Nation of Islam, a controversial black separatist movement, before later converting to mainstream Islam.

He travelled the world as a boxer and speaker, and inspired Muslims around the world.

Abdul Rafay Basheer, 25, travelled from Chicago for the service and said he saw Ali as an ambassador for Muslims. He said the prayer service would help to demystify his religion.

That was a theme taken up by Dawud Walid from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“In a political climate in which Islamophobia is front and centre, his funeral will counterpunch the ridiculous notion that being a good Muslim and a good American are at odds,” he said.

Ali “was willing to sacrifice the fame, the lights, the money, the glamour, all of that, for his beliefs and his principles,” Imam Shakir said in his address to the packed auditorium after reciting prayers over Ali’s coffin.

The funeral will continue on Friday with an interfaith memorial service and procession through Louisville passing key locations such as Ali’s childhood home, and a museum dedicated to him.

Tickets to attend the Friday service sold out only an hour after they went on sale.

World leaders and celebrities will attend, including former US President Bill Clinton and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. President Barack Obama will not be able to attend due to his eldest daughter’s graduation on the same day.

Speaking after Jenazah prayers, Dr Sherman Jackson, an Islamic scholar, used a boxing term to describe how “Ali put the question of whether a person can be a Muslim and an American to rest. Indeed, he KO’ed that question.”

Italy politics: Silvio Berlusconi to have heart surgery

Berlusconi was seen in public on Sunday, voting in municipal elections in Rome

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is to have heart surgery after an attack that could have killed him, his doctor says.

The 79-year-old will undergo surgery by the middle of next week to replace a defective aortic valve, Alberto Zangrillo told reporters in Rome.

Berlusconi served as prime minister four times but has since been convicted of tax fraud and bribery.

His political influence has waned since he left office in 2011.

Dr Zangrillo said Berlusconi had “arrived at the hospital in a severe state”.

“He risked his life, he risked dying and he knew it… We have identified in an exact and certain way a pathology of aortic valve that is called aortic insufficiency,” the doctor said.

“There’s only one way to correct it, which is the substitution of the aortic valve.”

‘A very unpleasant jolt’

The physician added that his patient had been shocked by the news.

“At the beginning he didn’t want to believe it,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.

“For a man who wants to live to be 130, this is a very unpleasant jolt.”

Berlusconi, a billionaire businessman who leads the Forza Italia party, was taken into hospital for tests in his home city, Milan, earlier this week.

A spokeswoman for the party said at the time his condition was not life-threatening.

Along with his various legal battles in recent years, he was ejected from the Senate in 2013 after a conviction for tax fraud.

His preferred candidate in Rome’s mayoral election on Sunday, property tycoon Alfio Marchini, made such a poor showing that he failed to make the run-off round.

Berlusconi’s business interests include the Mediaset TV company and football team AC Milan.

News that was in hospital pushed shares in Mediaset up 2%, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

Traders said the episode might induce the family to make succession arrangements that could provide new investment opportunities for the market.

Obama officially endorses Hillary Clinton

0

President Barack Obama

President Obama has officially endorsed Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party presidential nominee.

His endorsement came after meeting Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders who has been battling Mrs Clinton for the nomination.

Speaking in a video tweeted out by Mrs Clinton, Mr Obama said she may be the most qualified person “ever” for the role of president.

The two are set to start campaigning together soon.

“I want those of you who’ve been with me from the beginning of this incredible journey to be the first to know that ‘I’m with Her.’ I am fired up and cannot wait to get out there and campaign for Hillary,” Mr Obama said in the video.

“Secretary Clinton and Senator Sanders may have been rivals during this primary, but they’re both patriots who love this country and they share a vision for the America that we all believe in.”

The two ran against one another for the Democratic nomination in 2008 and Mr Obama later made Mrs Clinton secretary of state.

Speaking to Reuters following the endorsement, Mrs Clinton said Mr Obama’s endorsement “means the world”.

“It is absolutely a joy and an honour that President Obama and I, over the years, have gone from fierce competitors to true friends,” she said.

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump tweeted that Mr Obama’s endorsement means he wants “four more years of Obama” and “nobody else does”.

Barack Obama is now in the game. In a slickly produced video endorsement, the president has thrown his support behind Hillary Clinton’s bid to keep the White House in Democratic hands.

Given the high production value of the video, the announcement had obviously been in the works for some time. In fact, astute observers have noted that Mr Obama is sporting the tie he wore on Tuesday.

Bernie Sanders has said he will continue to campaign in Washington DC, leading up to the capital city’s primary next week – but expect most Democrats to close ranks quickly. The Vermont senator even struck a more conciliatory tone after a meeting at the White House, saying he looks forward to “working together” with the former secretary of state to defeat Donald Trump.

Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton will make their first joint appearance together in Wisconsin next week. Before that she’s visiting Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Democrats clearly view the general election battleground as the industrial Rust Belt states. And for the first time since 1998 there is a popular, scandal-free second-term incumbent president working hard on the campaign trail to preserve his legacy.

Don’t recall diplomats when there is change of govt – Awulae Attibrukusu

0

Diplomatic mission

The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs (NHC), Awulae Attibrukusu III wants a change in status quo where diplomats are recalled immediately the government that appointed them loses election.

Awulae Attibrukusu, who is also the President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, was sharing his thoughts on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa on the governance system and development-related issues.

“We recall all our ambassadors and high commissioners moment after a party takes over from another government and it is not good,” he underscored.

Awulae III noted that “the person [envoy] would have made contacts that would help the nation. It can be business contacts, personal contacts, but the moment they are recalled after his/her government loses power, they sit on these contacts that could have helped the nation”.

The Paramount Chief of Lower Axim Traditional Area explained that “continuation of these foreign mission workers should be devoid of politics so those appointed to these places could work effectively to help the nation”.

NMC

Awulae II criticised the National Media Commission (NMC) for failing to crack the whip on erring media houses.

He was concerned about the growing insults in the media landscape.

He said whenever a chief makes a comment that is contrary to tradition, calls are made for the person involved to be sanctioned, “so why is the NMC not sanctioning the media houses that allow their channel to be used to propagate insults and tension in the country”.

Awulai III called on the media to be circumspect because Ghanaians have nowhere if the country is plunged into crisis.

NPP/NDC

The Vice President accused the political parties of being behind the insults in the media, and asked the political parties to rein in those who use offensive words in the media.

The weapons were concealed in rice packed in a bag

The Police in the Northern Region have seized three serviceable AK47 riffles which were concealed in a sack of rice with magazines and 160 live ammunitions.

The arms and ammunition, which were procured by one Dapaa Jaboni in Chereponi and Bawku, were being transported to Bortor in the Kintampo district  of the Brong Ahafo Region when they were seized Wednesday evening.

According to the Police, the weapons were destined to fuel a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the Bawa and Chawchaw gates of Bortor.

Jaboni, who is known to belong to the Bawa gate, has been declared wanted by the Police in Kintampo, ACOP Johnson Akrofi told journalists Thursday, adding the Police will not relent on its effort to arrest him.

He said the Police picked intelligence that Jaboni had travelled to Chereponi and Bawku to purchase weapons to foment trouble in Bortor, hence set in motion  surveillance on him.

ACOP Akrofi said Jaboni was in transit in Tamale after acquiring the weapons when a Police source identified him but he managed to escape before personnel from the Sankpala Police Station arrived.

Muhammad Ali inspired me to be bold and fearless – Rawlings

0

Muhammad Ali

On the eve of the funeral of Muhammed Ali, Ghana’s former President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has recounted his double encounter with Muhammad Ali when he visited Ghana in May 1964.

Then a young student, Rawlings was there when Muhammad Ali visited Achimota School. He subsequently managed to visit the World Champion at his hotel where the restless, ice cream eating Ali kept shadow boxing in his room.

Rawlings describes Ali as teaching us to be bold and fearless, stimulating political consciousness and sparking positive defiance.

Please find below the full text of the former President’s tribute to Muhammad Ali

“I met Muhammad Ali as a youngster when Achimota School was chosen as one of the schools to be honoured by his visit.

“Classes were stopped for two to three hours. We met the champion and his team in the Assembly Hall, where he recited some of his poems. Then virtually the whole school gathered around him for a group photograph.

“Ali’s visit electrified our school compound. The next day was an exeat day and when I heard he was staying at the Ambassador Hotel on the very floor my mother was in charge of, I went there with one of my friends and we called on her to take us back to him.

“We spent about half an hour with Ali and his friends. He was eating ice cream and could hardly sit still but kept shadow boxing in the room.

“Ali stimulated political consciousness. He sparked positive defiance. While his actions and words lifted the bar of political defiance, his unique combination of brash confidence and humility taught us the beauty, peace and strength in being true to ourselves.

“He taught us to be bold and fearless in our fight for what was just. I learned from him to audaciously set my own standards. Muhammad Ali was the undying inspiration to so many of us. He epitomized the finest and the best of our generation, the pride of our time.

Ali fought battles in city rings

And a ‘jungle’ of his choosing

Loyal to his convictions

At the pinnacle of achievement

He paid a heavy price

For defying the establishment

He raised himself again to extraordinary heights

His battles were our battles

His loss was our loss

And his victory was our victory”

Let’s encourage Mahama because he’s doing a good job – Chief Dele

0

77f032c0-2076-4ae0-a061-9bac3b32448c

Nigerian politician and a self-confessed lover of Ghana, Chief Momodu Dele has endorsed President John Mahama’s leadership style, praising him for the infrastructural development in the country.

President Mahama in his State of the Nations Address stated that the country’s 4 billion cedis annual funding gap can effectively tackle Ghana’s infrastructural challenges.

Chief Dele believes unlike the Mahama administration, many African leaders have failed their people.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise Morning Show, Chief Dele commended President Mahama for his foresight.

“What I love about Ghana first, is the beauty of Ghana and I like a nation that is forward looking and forward thinking and where the infrastructure is solid.

“If you ask me one of the biggest problems Buhari is going to face in Nigeria is the lack of infrastructure.

“Electricity is not working and the roads are bad because he has invested a lot in terms of infrastructure whereas since I started coming to Ghana 21 years ago I have seen a consistent performance by Ghanaian leaders to build a nation that will compete with Europe, America and Asia.

“In the last three years of President Mahama’s term I have been enthralled and I’m forced to ask how he gets funding to do what he’s doing at the airport.

“If you haven’t been to the airport in the last two months and you go there today, you will be shocked at what you find and compared to what I have seen elsewhere, I will say kudos to Mahama on that.

“If you talk about roads, I am able to drive my car around Ghana without worrying so much about poor roads that can destroy those cars.

“I went to circle the other day after two years and I couldn’t believe the level of work going on there so those are some of the things we need to look out for.

“We must encourage good people to do better and we must encourage the President to do better because I am a businessman and I know what it takes to build but it’s easy to destroy.

“A prophet is never honoured at home but I am telling you that you can never know better than a man on the hot seat.

“Ghana is doing very well today and of course we can do better and there is no doubt about that but within the resources available to Ghana, I am very impressed”.

How to increase your sex appeal effortlessly!

0
Harnessing the power of sex appeal can do wonders for you and your life
Harnessing the power of sex appeal can do wonders for you and your life

Sex appeal is an awesome asset to have. Some of us have it and some of us don’t. But every single person has the potential to exude sex appeal. Find out how to increase your sex appeal here.

Harnessing the power of sex appeal can do wonders for you and your life. You feel better, you look better and everyone else either wants you or wants to be with you.

Knowing how to increase your sex appeal is easy, but following the tips to the tee is the difficult part. By working on your sex appeal, you can get the attention of anyone you like with ease.

Life just becomes so much easier when you look and feel sexy.

What is sex appeal?

For the uninitiated, sex appeal is the involuntary ability to attract anyone of the opposite sex and make them like you almost instantly.

When we speak about sex appeal, it’s almost always the physical attributes that come to mind. But by using these steps mentioned below, you’d learn that there are many other subtle signs of sex appeal too that go beyond physical attributes.

If you’ve got a body that’s a perfect ten, well, life just got easier for you when it comes to working your sex appeal. But a great body is really never enough to exude sex appeal and draw everyone around you.

How to increase your sex appeal

You may not realize this, but every single person has the ability to increase their sex appeal tenfold and attract a lot of good lookers. All it takes is a bit of understanding about the different aspects that matter and using it to increase your sex appeal.

Find out how to increase your sex appeal in these ten steps. Use them religiously in your daily life, and you’ll be an attractive looker with tons of sex appeal sooner than you think.

#1 Learn to dress well

Sex appeal is all about your physical attributes, along with a pinch of subtle attributes. For starters, dress well and always look your best. If you don’t think your dressing style is something to brag about, use a few fashion magazines or even get the help of an image makeover consultant. Dressing well is one of the basic steps in knowing how to increase your sex appeal.

#2 Get a great body

If you don’t have washboard abs or sexy, toned legs, you’re not working out enough. It’s easy to sit back and whine about how fat you are or why no one ever gives you a second glance. Almost half the adults in the United States are fat. Get off your butt and do something about it.

Start working out and take an initiative to look good. You may have to run or do cardio for six months to lose weight, but just sitting around and having a burger and fries while bitching about your cruel world isn’t going to make you look any better. You want to look good? Get ready to work your butt. And hey, you know you’re always going to get second glances when you look fitter!

#3 Glow!

Learn to groom yourself. Bed heads and multicolor streaks look good on a fashion ramp, but they don’t particularly make the best impressions in your office or on your career. Eat healthy, sleep well and get that glowing skin. When you feel good about your daily lifestyle, your skin would start to glow, and you’d feel and look a lot better. And your sex appeal, well, it’ll start to grow too!

#4 Fragrances

Have your own collection of perfumes that smell great on you. When it comes to picking fragrances and perfumes, always remember that what smells great on someone else may not work for you. A lot of things like your body temperature and your body’s natural fragrance matters here.

Leave a waft of mild perfume in the air as you walk past someone of the opposite sex. It’s an instant turn on that will leave anyone wanting more. Perfumes, especially when they mix with your own body’s pheromones, can create a lasting positive effect on anyone you want to attract.

#5 Build your confidence

While physical aspects matter most in sex appeal, subtle factors like your confidence can play a big part too. If you want to know how to increase your sex appeal, learn to work on your confidence. Be positive and learn to look at the bright side of everything you do. Feeling unworthy or uncomfortable around people doesn’t help in growing your sex appeal. Work on your confidence and understand your true worth. Your upbeat attitude and your confidence will draw more people towards you than you can imagine.

#6 Intense eye contact

You may notice that most people you meet don’t have a strong eye contact. They may look into your eyes for a few seconds and look away because they can’t hold their gaze any longer.

Don’t be that person.

When you talk to someone of the opposite sex, especially someone you like, gaze deeply into their eyes as they talk to you. When you’re relaxed and confident, and stare into another person’s eyes when they’re talking, it may make the other person feel awkward. But it’ll also leave them feel weak in the knees.

#7 Stay calm and composed

No one likes Nervous Nelly. Don’t be that person. When you’re jittery and cluttered in your head, it’s hard to make anyone around you feel comfortable. No matter what you’re doing, stay calm and composed. It’ll make the person around you feel at ease and will help them connect with you better.

The next time you’re on a date, don’t fidget around. Relax and sit back calmly. A happy, calm “˜you’ can create a happier atmosphere and make anyone love being with you.

#8 Be graceful in whatever you do

You don’t have to be a ballerina or a flamenco artist, though it would help immensely if you do know how to dance, but you have to learn to be aware of your body. Most men and women look so clumsy when they can’t control their own body, it’s almost repulsive.

Learn to be graceful in your movements and your postures, be it a wave to say hello or a handshake or a hug to say goodbye. When you’re familiar with controlled movements like dancing, it makes you look sexy and appealing, no matter what you do. So if you’ve got the time for it, join a few salsa classes or pick a dance-at-home dvd.

#9 Speak in a lower voice

Work your sexy voice into a conversation the next time you’re on a date. While women may love the deep testosterone laden voice of a man, men don’t always want a woman to bellow in a deep voice.

Men have always found female voices to be attractive, especially when it’s not too shrill or high pitched. A woman who speaks in a soft voice and adds a perfect giggle now and then, almost instantly makes any guy she’s conversing with like her. If that isn’t sex appeal, what is?!

#10 Know that you look sexy!

If you want to know how to increase your sex appeal, you could use all these tips here and become a new and improved hottie overnight. But unless you truly believe you’re hot stuff, you can’t really become hot stuff.

Once you use all these tips, you really need to believe in yourself and realize that you’ve become a better person who gets a lot more attention than ever before. When you feel sexy, it shows. And it definitely attracts all the right attention!

Italy probes ‘wrong arrest’ claims

Left: An image of the man believed to be Mered Medhanie previously released by the UK National Crime Agency; Right: the man said to be Mered Medhanie who was extradited to Italy.

Italian prosecutors are investigating whether the wrong man was extradited to Italy in a major operation against people-smuggling.

Mered Medhanie is thought to be at the heart of a ring trafficking migrants from Africa to Europe.

A 35-year-old Eritrean man said to be Medhanie was detained in Sudan last month and flown to Rome on Tuesday.

Since then, friends and family of the man have told the BBC there has been a case of mistaken identity.

Investigators say Medhanie – dubbed The General – was responsible for the death of 359 migrants who drowned when their boat sank off the Italian coast in October 2013.

The man who was extradited was arrested by Sudanese police with the help of the British and Italian authorities, the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

But Francesco Lo Voi, the chief prosecutor in the Italian city of Palermo, now says “we are carrying out the necessary checks”.

“The identification of the suspect, his arrest, his handing over and his extradition to Italy were communicated to us in an official manner by the NCA and the Sudanese authorities through Interpol,” he told Italy’s Ansa news agency.

The NCA said it was “too soon to speculate” about the claims but added it was “confident in its intelligence-gathering process”.

Friends of the detainee identified him as Mered Tesfamariam, a 27-year-old migrant.

A woman living in Norway who identified herself as his sister told the BBC’s Newsnight programme her brother was “completely innocent”.

Hiwet Tesfamariam Berhe Kidane said she had last spoken to him about three weeks ago and had first learned of his arrest when she saw pictures of him on television and social media.

Hermon Berhe, who lives in Ethiopia, said he had grown up in Eritrea with the man shown in pictures handed out by Italian police.

“I don’t think he has any bone in his body which can involve such kind of things,” he said. “He is a loving, friendly and kind person.”

And Meron Estefanos, a Swedish-Eritrean journalist who interviewed the real Mered Medhanie in a phone call last year, said: “I called refugees who know the real smuggler and I showed them the picture of what the Italians published and then everybody said, ‘No, that’s not the smuggler that smuggled us into Europe’.

“I believe they have the wrong person. This is a refugee who happened to be in [the Sudanese capital] Khartoum at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

She added that rumours were going around Khartoum that the real Medhanie had been arrested in Sudan but had managed to bribe himself out of jail.

He has also been ordered by the Accra Commercial Court to pay GHC 72,000 in fines, TV3’s Godfred Tanam reported from the court Thursday morning. He will serve two more years should he fail to pay the fine.

Police ruin burial ceremony for man killed in Krofrom

0

krofrom

The father of Richmond Osei, popularly known as Tawiah, who was killed by the police in Kumasi Krofrom is shocked by the refusal of the Ashanti Regional Police Command to release his body for burial.

Mr. Kwasi Ahinkan, surprised by the posture of the police, said the family has finished the arrangements to perform the burial today but the police are refusing to release the corpse to them which is costing the family.

The family planned to hold the funeral rite today Thursday for the 22-year-old who died after he was allegedly brutalized by the Police in Krofrom but the funeral has been put on hold because the police has ordered management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital not to release the body to the family.

The situation has created an uneasy calm again in Krofom as the relatives and the youth there are bent on burying the body today.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Kwame Karikari Thursday, Mr. Kwasi Ahinka said the police told them they will do the autopsy report again to confirm what actually killed Tawiah but the family wanted to bury him to end the matter.

Mr. Ahinkan said the police have also asked them to bring a letter indicating that they are requesting for the body before they can release him for burial.

This, according to Mr. Ahinkan, will bring huge cost to them because they have done every arrangement to bury him today.

He added that posters, sound system, canopies, drinks, food and any other funeral needs have been purchased for the funeral.

Another shortfall in cocoa target

0

Cocoa Farmers

Ghana bagged only 690,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans for the 2015/2016 crop season out of a target of 850,000 metric tonnes.

It therefore missed its target by 160,000 metric tonnes.

The shortfall has been attributed to poor managerial policies of the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) and unfavourable weather conditions.

Figures from Cocobod indicate that the country’s highest output for cocoa production was 1,024,552 metric tonnes which was recorded in the 2010/2011 crop season.

The crop yield has since been reducing steadily to 740,254.06 metric tonnes in the 2014/2015 crop season.

An industry watcher who spoke to Business Finder alleged that Cocobod had shunned most of the licensed buying cocoa companies by not providing financial and logistical support to enable them acquire more cocoa beans to meet the country’s production target.

He also alleged that Cocobod took additional $300 million from the banks increasing its borrowing to $2.1 billion in the 2015/2016 crop season.

The cocoa syndication generated $1.8 billion but attracted an interest of $4.1 million from October 2015 to January 2016.

He urged government to investigate the current happenings in the cocoa sector to prevent any further slump in cocoa production.

According to him Cocobod could generate only about 40,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans between now and September when the light crop season ends due to the current weather pattern and other factors.

This will mean that the total cocoa production for the 2015/2016 crop season will be about 730,000 metric tonnes, leaving a shortfall of 120,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans still to procure.

He expressed fears that Ghana could also miss its cocoa production target for the 2016/2017 crop season.

He said the targeted 900,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans for the 2016/2017 crop season looks not achievable because of inadequate fertilizers and logistical support for farmers.

But Public Affairs manager of Cocobod, Mr Noah Amenyah remains confident of meeting the set target.

“We are on course to achieving our target for 2015/2016 crop season; if you compare what the production level is this year to last year, we are doing well in spite of the fact that the weather was very severe and the harmattan was very long,’ he said.

Following parliament’s approval last week, Cocobod is expected to raise about $2 billion as loan to purchase cocoa beans for the 2016/2017.

J. Mahama et al sue Kwame Nkrumah’s cabinet minister

0

CPP Gen Sec

Six members of the Ghana Disability Forum have initiated a legal action against Franklin Jantuah, the last surviving member of Kwame Nkrumah’s cabinet, for “scandalous” statements he is said to have made against Convention People’s Party’s flagbearer Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.

Mr Jantuah is said to have questioned the ability of Mr Greenstreet to “walk the talk”, in the literal sense.

“If you have a CPP with a leader who is a cripple…I wonder how he is going to rule,” Mr Jantuah is quoted as saying.

Piqued by the comments, the Forum’s members including Johnson Mahama are seeking six reliefs from the Human Rights Court.

The plaintiffs namely Alex Tetteh, Francis Adjetey Sowah, Jonathan Agbesi, Kwame Afaglo, Johnson Mahama and Clement Hammond in their statement of writ accused Mr Jantuah of breaching not only the 1992 Constitution but also the Disability Act of 2006.

Among the reliefs being sought by the plaintiffs is an order to get Mr Jantuah retract his comments and consequently apologise to Mr Greenstreet.
