The 2003 Year Group of Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School on Saturday 11th November, 2023 celebrated their 20 years anniversary after completing school.

As part of the anniversary commemoration, the old students of the prestigious all female school donated a 12- seater flush toilet to one of the houses in the school named Yaa Sarponmaa House ( House 8).

Talking to the media present, the president of the association Ms. Erica Edem Senayah,  divulged that her Year group was motivated to donate a lavatory in a quest to enhance proper hygiene and sanitary conditions in the school. She says this is the first time any of the year groups from Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School has embarked on a comprehensive infrastructure project.

Dr Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor , National Coordinator for The National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme , a former school prefect and member of the 2003 year group also launched ‘The Girls Leadership Academy ‘ an initiative designed by her to groom students within the school for prominent leadership roles.

The three day anniversary ceremony commenced from Friday 10th November with a mentorship session to Sunday 12th November ,2023 climaxing it with a Thanksgiving Service at Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS assembly Hall.

Ghanaian rapper, Jay Bahd has caused a stir by asserting that smoking marijuana, which is referred to as “wee” in Ghanaian culture, is not a sin and is instead comparable to “mogya duro,” which literally means “blood tonic.”

During an open interview on Ghpage’s Rush Hour Show, the “Odo” hitmaker unapologetically defended the smoking of ‘Wee’, stressing that it should not be deemed a sin but should be seen as a “blood tonic”.

According to the rapper, who’s also a lead member of Asakaa Boys, marijuana should be classified as a “blood tonic” since it increases appetite, which helps one to eat well.

In an effort to make a great point, he compared the use of marijuana to divine wisdom, saying that criticizing its use is the same as doubting God’s wisdom because he created everything and declared it holy for human consumption.

The rapper’s vocal position on marijuana use for recreational purposes clarifies the current discussion about the legalization and social acceptance of cannabis in different countries.

By comparing it to “mogya duro,” he subtly suggests that, for him, smoking marijuana holds a medicinal or therapeutic value rather than being a mere indulgence.

This revelation, made on October 11, 2023, followed a tweet by Nigerian news blog YabaLeftOnline regarding allegations made by Will Smith’s former assistant, Brother Bilaal, about an incident involving Will Smith and Duane Martin.

In her tweet, Abena Korkor stated, “There is no shame in being a bisexual. I am one.”

Abena Korkor, formerly a co-host of TV3’s Ladies Circle, known for providing a platform for women to discuss their challenges, faced dismissal from the media organization in June 2023 after sharing a video of herself in lingerie on social media.

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Mr. Eazi has lauded Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale for his efforts to promote up-and-coming musicians even if he would have to forgo his humongous performance fee.

The musician indicated that Shatta Wale charges $250,000 as a performance fee to perform at a musical event but he forfeited it for the sake of other artistes getting the needed attention as well.

He showered praises on Shatta Wale for holding a concert and allowed other young artistes to perform to give them the spotlight for their development.

Speaking in an interview with Nigeria FM in Lagos, Mr. Eazi disclosed the amount of money Shatta Wale charges as a performance fee before performing at an event.

“Shatta Wale in Ghana realized nobody could pay his fee so he did something for the young artistes. Last year in December he came and performed at my show for free meanwhile he charges $250,000 as a performance fee.

“He also held a free stadium show [Freedom Wave Concert] and I even performed for him. We had about 50,000 people attending the event. He did this to showcase the other up-and-coming artistes as well,” said Mr. Eazi.

This isn’t the first time the dancehall artiste has received admiration from showbiz personalities as the likes of Tinny, KK Fosu, and Nana Aba Anamoah, among others have shared their positive thoughts and experiences about the Shatta Movement boss.

Multiple award-winning rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, famously known as Sarkodie, was in the Supreme Court today over a case challenging a guideline by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) prohibiting celebrities and well-known personalities from being used for advertising alcoholic products.

The case was filed by Mark Darlington Osae, Manager of Hiplife artistes -Reggie ‘N’ Bollie, and Skrewfaze.

It is the case of the plaintiff that the guideline by the FDA is unconstitutional as it violated the right against discrimination as guaranteed by Article 17 of the 1992 Constitution.

Article 17(1) of the Constitution stipulates that all persons shall be equal before the law, while Article 17(2) states that “a person shall not be discriminated on grounds of gender, race, colour, ethnic origin, religion, creed or social or economic status”.

Adjournment

A seven-member panel of the apex court was expected to hear the constitutional matter today but the case was adjourned to January 17.

Sarkodie was in court with lawyer for the plaintiff, Bobby Banson.

Ban

Guideline 3.2.10 of Guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods was published by the FDA on February 1, 2016.

It states that “No well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising”.

The FDA contended that the guideline was necessary to stop minors from being hooked to alcohol due to the influence of celebrities.

In November last year, Mr Osae, who is also the Chairman and Co-Founder of Ghana Music Alliance, dragged the FDA and the Attorney General to the apex court.

He is seeking a declaration that “ on a true and proper interpretation of Article 17(1) and (2) which guarantee equality before the law and prohibits discrimination against persons on grounds of social or economic status, occupation, among others, Guideline 3.2.10 of the Guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods published by the 1st Defendant on 1st February 2016 which provides that “No well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising” is discriminatory, inconsistent with and in contravention of articles 17(1) and 17(2) of the 1992 Constitution, and thus unconstitutional.

He is also asking the apex court for a declaration “that on a true and proper interpretation of Article 17(1) and (2), Guideline 3.2.10 of the Guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods published by the 1st Defendant on 1st February 2016 which prohibits well known personalities and professionals from advertising alcoholic products is inconsistent with and in contravention of articles 17(1) and 17 (2) of the 1992 Constitution which guarantee equality before the law and prohibits discrimination against persons on grounds of social or economic status, occupation amongst others and consequently null, void and unenforceable.”

He is also seeking “an order striking down Guideline 3.2.10 of the Guidelines for the Advertisement of foods published by the 1st Defendant on 1st February 2016 as being inconsistent with and in contravention of the letter and spirit of the 1992 Constitution and as such a nullity”

The rapper’s management announced his death on his official Instagram page on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, that the rapper passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at exactly 10:14 PM.

Confirming his death, the singer management wrote;

“We are saddened to inform the general public that Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji aka OLADIPS has passed away yesterday Nov’14th Tuesday evening, at exactly 10:14pm. We are still in shock as we speak!

“For over 2 years he has kept his battles within himself, his body is now with his family & funeral services will be announced as soon as it is concluded! The family asked that we respect their privacy in this trying time.

According to him, his marriage to actress and fashion blogger, Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire and philanthropist Femi Otedola was not a secret.

Speaking in a recent interview with Naija FM, Lagos, Mr. Eazi addressed the internet rumours that suggested he and Temi Otedola were hiding their engagement and marriage. However, their wedding was not a secret as they shared some footage of their union in the music video for his song “Legalize” shot in Venice.

“Who told you it was a secret wedding? Go and watch the video of my song ‘Legalize’ you will get the answer to your question. We shot the video in Venice,” Mr Eazi said.

The “legalize” crooner said the clothes they wore in the video were more than just costumes, and he urged people to watch it again.

“If you watch the video you will see proofs there. Our outfits weren’t just costumes. Go and watch the video and you will see everything clearly. It’s just like what painters do, whenever you see their work you will see the message they’re trying to convey. That’s how it’s with us musicians too.”

Keke Palmer is now the sole guardian of her 8-month-old son Leodis, after she filed and was granted a request for a domestic violence restraining order against the child’s father, Darius Jackson.

The “Nope” star was granted temporary sole custody of her son after filing legal documents on Thursday in Los Angeles.According to those documents, which were obtained by CNN, Palmer requested full physical and legal custody of Leodis from the court, citing allegations of physical abuse including “many instances of physical violence, including striking and grabbing me around the neck.”

The temporary restraining order granted by a Los Angeles County judge stipulates that Jackson must stay at least 100 yards away from both Palmer and their son.

CNN has reached out to representatives for Palmer and Jackson for comment.

Jackson and Palmer began dating in 2021.

A court hearing is scheduled for December 5.

The “Friends” star posted on Instagram a series of photos of himself and Perry in character, as well as a photo of the cast in a group hug, in honor of the actor who died last month at the age of 54.

“Matthew it is with a heavy heart I say goodbye,” LeBlanc wrote in the caption on the post, set to the song “Rainbow Connection.” “The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.”

“It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend,” he continued. “I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never.”

The pair became close in their ten seasons on “Friends,” with LeBlanc portraying good-natured Joey Tribbiani and Perry as the sarcastic and affable Chandler Bing on the hit NBC series.

True to the comedy that brought the men together and made them both superstars, LeBlanc ended his words with humor.

“Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love,” LeBlanc wrote. “And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”

The cast was known to be incredibly close not just on the show, but also off.

In a joint statement released after Perry’s death, LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer wrote, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.”

“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss,” the statement went on to read. “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
