#OccupyJulobiHouse: Netizens decend on Okyeame Kwame over ‘fix yourself’ comment

0

Ghanaian hiplife legend and entrepreneur, Kwame Nsiah-Apau, known by his stage name Okyeame Kwame has been lambasted by netizens after a tweet he made urging Ghanaians to be responsible and fix themselves and the country instead of depending on politicians.

He made this comment on his Twitter handle in reply to a question by media personality Naa Ashorkor where she asked her followers “Who do you believe will fix the country?”.

In response, Okyeame Kwame posted, “You Naa, you will fix the country. Starting with your health, then mindset, then your family, then your work. If we all start a small light in our little corners, Ghana will become bright. All the names you have mentioned can also light a small flame. However, Ghana cannot be fixed by one man. No messiah in politics.”

His tweet however did not go down well with many followers who likened his comments to the “Fix Yourself” campaign which emerged on the back of the “Fix the Country” movement in 2021.

The #Fixthecountry movement began on social media as a call for better governance at the height of economic turmoils in Ghana. However, government supporters had also created a #Fixyourself campaign which called on citizens to do better and contribute to the development of the country rather than depending on the government.

Okyeame Kwame’s post was met with backlash as many questioned how “fixing themselves” would solve pertinent issues like roads and healthcare. Others pointed out his silence during the #OccupyJulobiHouse protests and accused him of being a government sympathizer.

Below are some comments on Okyeame Kwame’s post.

Blakk Rasta descends on Kweku Baako and others over Black Sherif’s tweet on Akufo-Addo

0

Ghanaian musician and radio personality, Blakk Rasta, expressed his unflinching support for artiste, Black Sherif following the backlash by some members of the public.

According to him, the criticisms by some government officials and individuals of Blacko’s tweet on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are unfair because he has the right to voice his concerns as a citizen of the country.

The controversial musician chided the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, for asserting that Black Sherif is ignorant of his tweet on President Akufo-Addo concerning the UN conference.

Black Rasta during his UrbanBlend show on 3FM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, indicated that there is nothing wrong with Black Sherif’s tweet hence he should be allowed to air his opinion.

“Blacko might not understand what it is to say ‘reparations’ but Blacko is not wrong. All those people calling out Blacko and saying he’s ignorant he should have known, is Ghana not an African country? Since when has Ghana become a European country?” he quizzed.

“The reparations of $88 billion Nana Akufo-Addo is asking for, if it’s returned to Africa, is Ghana not going to be part of the $88 billion? If Blacko says Nana Akufo-Addo is asking for so much money I have never ever had in my life, is he wrong?

“Some people just want to play knowledgeable some people just want to play smart kweku Baako also came out and spoke against what Blacko said and said he should get the facts; show me where Blacko is wrong.”

Background

Popular Ghanaian media personality, Omanhene Kwabena Asante, warned Black Sherif to desist from meddling in government issues if he is not privy to facts.

He lambasted the singer for criticizing President Akufo-Addo for his ‘harmless’ statement at the just-ended United Nations General Debate in New York.

At the conference, President Akufo-Addo asked that a sum of $88 billion be returned to the African continent, as reparations to African nations for the slave trade.

The president, during his submission also said African states are annually losing more than $88 billion through illicit financial flows.

“You’re keeping our $88 billion and still calling us corrupt. Yes, those monies too must be returned to the continent. It is difficult to understand why the recipient countries are comfortable retaining such funds while labeling those countries, from which the money is taken as corrupt,” Akufo-Addo told the Assembly.

In reaction to this, Black Sherif, in a quest to add his voice to the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, claimed that the president asked for an insanely huge amount of money from developed countries during the United Nations conference in New York.

Blacko, in a bid to chide the government for its lack of accountability after securing such huge sums, said there is no evidence for all the monies the government has asked and received from countless institutions.

“Left the UN Conference in New York City right after the president of Ghana’s presentation. I’ve never heard a figure like what he asked for from the UN. So, if they carry all this money give dem, where them dey take pass? Hand on my heart I dey tell you there’s no evidence for all the monies these people dey borrow in our name. And if the people, whose struggles you document to go ask for money, want accountability, you send Koti make they dey beat them? Lord knows this battle is Ours. Wonna go hear am,” he wrote on Twitter.

While his tweet earned applause from a section of the public, particularly from the protesters, Omanhene Kwabena, disagrees with him at all levels.

“He is just joining the bandwagon. Does he know what that money is being used for? Oh no! he shouldn’t just be saying things like this. He said there is no evidence of what they are borrowing the money for and that is not even true. There is no evidence? If there is no evidence, what about the hospital projects NDC built and NPP came to complete? If you’re not satisfied with the pace of development, is different from saying that there is nothing to show for the loans we take.

“Does he think MPs are clueless? He might not be happy with the pace of development but he shouldn’t lie. It is not a fact. Do you think if we didn’t utilize the loans, they would’ve kept giving us? Let’s be fair to ourselves. Let’s follow the principle. If you don’t understand the system, take your time and understand it. It is not a music scene. He is misrepresenting the facts.,” he fumed during a discussion on Adom FM.

Kanayo O. Kanayo speaks on alleged involvement in money ritual

0

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has refuted rumours that he participated in money rituals in real life.

The rumours, according to him were borne out of his constant roles in occultic movies.

Narrating the extent of the evil perception he has received, Kanayo, in an interview with Afia TV said he has been nicknamed “Nnanyi Sacrifice”.

He said that particular name was bestowed on him during Obi Cubana’s mother’s funeral and that he quickly rejected it.

According to the actor-turned-lawyer, the nickname “Nnanyi Sacrifice” stuck even though he initially rejected it.

“When you hear somebody call me ‘Nnanyi Sacrifice,’ it was just the name somebody called me during Obi Cubana’s mother’s burial.

“One thing about names is that immediately you start rejecting it, it sticks. Call me any name you like, but pay me my cheque. If we listen to the message, we will change the society more. I am just a vessel.”

Ayisha Modi calls out Hajia4Reall’s ‘baby daddy’ over alleged US$10,000 debt

0

Investor cum socialite, Ayisha Modi, has alleged that the father of Hajia4Reall’s child, Latif, popularly known as ‘Loveman’, owes her a sum of US$10,000.

Sharing details of the development in a TikTok live video, Ayisha Modi claimed without evidence that sometime in 2020, she made a down payment of US$10,000 to Loveman for a house in Cantonments and has since not heard anything from him.

She said she later changed her mind about purchasing the house and requested for her cash but he has since blatantly refused to refund the money.

Ayisha Modi said she has been trying to get Loveman to refund her money for the past three years but to no avail.

“Loveman, I have respected you enough and it is enough. In 2020 Loveman posted a nice house on social media and I asked him, how much it was. He told me it cost US$240,000 and was located at Cantonments. He asked me to make a down payment of US$10,000 and I did just that. I sent him US$10,000. I later changed my mind and decided I wouldn’t buy the house anymore because I realized it was like the apartment type. I could even use that money to buy a full house at East Legon,” she fumed.

Ayisha Modi added that upon a series of back and forth, Latif asked her to get a buyer so her money would be refunded but she did not subscribe to that idea.

Ayisha said Loveman later told her that the estate developers said it is impossible for a client to retrieve a down payment if he or she fails to pull through with a purchase.

“Later, Loveman said he has to speak with the people first. Later, he came to tell me that I should get him a buyer and I refused. I have messages to all of these. He said once they get a buyer, he will refund me my US$10,000 down payment and that was all. To date, he has refused to pick up my calls. I have been calling him for the past three years and no answer. I have been asking for my money but to no avail. Giving me my down payment shouldn’t be a problem. He said per the agreement, if I make a down payment and I don’t buy the property, then it means the money cannot be refunded. Do you know what it takes to make US$10,000 in Ghana? I mentioned Hajia4Reall’s baby father so that everyone would know who I was referring to. Latiff I am giving you a last warning,” she added.

Describing Loveman as one who falsely parades himself as wealthy, Ayisha, threatened to expose him and any of his friends who would dare to defend him.

She added that although the issue had been reported to the police, they are yet to make headway in the case.

“If you are living abroad, don’t trust any motherfucker in Ghana. All the rich men in Ghana who reside in East Legon are fond of just packaging themselves. Don’t let me expose you guys. All the East Legon big men should try me and see what I am capable of. I have reported the issue to the police but unfortunately, they are jokers. That is why people resort to using landguards. Anytime they call Loveman he says he has travelled. Loveman, I am telling you that I am not one of those people you can defraud. I don’t want to go there with you,” she averred.

Meanwhile, Loveman is yet to respond to the said allegations.
