A police officer on duty at the residence of the Ashanti regional police commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye has shot another police officer after an altercation.

Confirming the report to TV3 news, Ashanti regional police PRO, ASP Mohammed Tanko said “a constable went to the regional commanders’ house around 5:45pm on Monday requesting to have audience with the commander.

“Policeman on guard at the commanders residence told him the commander had not returned from the office so there was no way he could see him. The constable didn’t believe him, he took offence and attacked him (officer on duty).

“He attempted taking the weapon of the officer on guard who managed to ward him off. The struggle to get the weapon went on for a while and the officer on duty shot him in the knee preventing him from further attack.”

The constable has been rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment.

Meanwhile the regional police PRO is alleging that the constable “may be suffering from some mental derailment hence the unwarranted attack” but was quick to add that “since we are not medics, we are waiting to see what the doctors would say about his mental condition.”
